This artwork is a truly impressive sculpture!  A mounted warrior battles a ground soldier over the continent of Africa itself.  This piece is a tribute to the bravery of the African people in battle.  The brass can be polished or allowed to "age."  Equally right in a museum or your home.  Really an arresting piece!

This glorious sculpture has been created using the "lost wax" method.  It is an extremely labor intensive process.  A wax mold is formed by hand, over an open fire, until exact.  Reeds, as tubes, are fixed to the top. The wax is then dipped into fine powdered mud several times with hardening in between applications.  This forms a clay casting around the mold.  Next, the clay is heated until the wax melts and pours out.  Using the tubes, molten brass is poured into the space left in the clay form by the wax.  When it has cooled, the clay is broken away.  Any finishing details necessary are then done by hand.  For more unique artworks from Africa, please visit our shop, Hand It to You!

As these pieces are hand made in primitive fashion, variations and "birthmarks" will occur from time to time.  This merely adds to the authenticity of the art!  Measurements are approximate.
