Description:

Le Corbusier et P. Jeanneret

Première série

A Paris : éditions Albert Morancé, 30-32, Paris, 1927, First Editon.
In French. Quarto, 11.5 inches (28 cm.) high.

[2] p. blank, half title. (with "Extrait de L'Architecture Vivante'" and publisher's address and device on verso of half title), Title page, 38 pages of Contents, text and plans plus 25 plates (photographs and architectural drawings, one partly colored) on card stock printed on one side. Final [3] p. blank. variant publisher’s device on back cover.

Plates have imprint: "L'Architecture vivante Automne MCMXXVII [1927]. éditions Albert Morancé."

The publication was issued as a portfolio of paper-covered boards with ties containing the sheets of text and the loose plates.
The original portfolio of loose text pages and plates has been professionally transformed into a bound book. This was probably done soon after the portfolio was published.

Each leaf and plate has been individually and carefully attached to a paper hinge, and the hinges were then sewn and bound with marbled end-papers in marbled-paper covered boards with cloth spine and corners. The original portfolio covers were then attached on top of the new covers.

Unfortunately, at a later time the original front portfolio cover became detached and was lost, and only the rear porfolio cover remains attached. All items listed on Table des Matieres are present in the re-incarnated portfolio and all are in excellent shape.

In addition to the two articles by Le Corbusier, the book includes "Le Palais de la Société des Nations," by Jean Badovici.

Very scarce portfolio documenting several of Le Corbusier’s major architectural and urban planning projects from the 1920s.

Condition: Very Good Contents and Good+ Covers.
The portfolio re-born as a book is complete and clean except for the loss of the top cover of the original portfolio. The title and half-title pages have light foxing and a few pages have very light marginal foxing or light age-toning.
The binding is in excellent shape.
The front board has some adhesive spots and light surface tears at the margins where the original portfolio board had been attached. The rear board has edgewear and a small surface abrasion. Only a portion of the original cardboard backstrip is present but the cloth spine is in excellent shape.

Shipping and Payment Information

Shipping :

DOMESTIC

Domestic Media Mail shipping, including Delivery Confirmation and Insurance, is standard. This applies to any address in the US and Puerto Rico, as well as to APO addresses.

Media Mail, available only for domestic shipping, is trucked to its destination, and shipped by boat to Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico, On the average it takes 3 to 10 days to arrive, depending on the distance and the vagaries of the US Postal Service.

Shipments to Alaska, Hawaii, APO and other off-shore addresses take longer to arrive.

During the pre-Christmas season, Media Mail is subject to delays.

When filling out the Ebay Detailed Seller Ratings, please keep in mind that the sometime slow arrival is due to the performance of the Postal Service and not to any tardiness on the part of the seller.

For expedited domestic mailing, Priority Mail shipping can be arranged at an additional cost. For most books, we charge between two and nine dollars for this service, including delivery confirmation and insurance. For heavy sets or high-value books, the charge may be higher.

INTERNATIONAL

For international shipping, we urge bidders to request quotes of shipping costs before bidding.

We will also specify international shipping options and prices after the conclusion of the auction. We will try to provide a range of options but buyers should be aware that all shipments are via air mail and shipping of heavy books can be expensive.

COMBINED SHIPPING

For international transactions, combined shipping of multiple lots can substantially reduce postage. This is especially the case for M-Bag shipments of up to 11 lbs and for multiple volumes that will fit into a single Priority Mail flat rate box. For the above options, the postage rate is fixed independently of the weight.

INSURANCE

All of our domestic shipments are fully insured.

Payment :

No credit cards except through PayPal. Paypal payments should be in US Dollars but Euros are also acceptable if prior agreement is obtained.

As of October 2008, Ebay is imposing the requirement that all payments be made via Paypal. We understand that this requirement may be a problem to some of our customers and we will do our best to accommodate their needs.
