Townsend was Appointed Directorship of the Collection and Preparation, and was Published by the United States Government Printing Office Between the Years 1891 and 1895 as The Historical Record of The War of The Rebellion, Constituting a Total of 175 Plates Issued in 35 Parts, of which this Plate is One, Portraying a Wealth of Knowledge and Information on Battle Lines, Division & Troop Positions, Topography, & Military Strategy. All Plates are Lithographs, Primary Colors being Green, Red, Blue, & Brown, with the Union represented in Blue & Confederate States Forces in Red.
