This is a superb rare Irish George III Sterling Silver ladle, which I believe to be made by John Osborne, and hallmarked c1792 at the Dublin assay office.
This sumptuous large ladle has a wonderful patina and features bright cut engraving, a curved handle and a blank cartouche. It measures approx. 14 1/16 inches (358 mm) long with a bowl that is approx. 3 12/16 inches (95mm) diameter by about 1 11/16 of an inch (42mm) deep. The underside of the handle carries a set of Sterling Silver hallmarks for Dublin, with a clear well defined makers mark of JO ( which I believe to be the sought after mark of Irish Silversmith John Osborne ), date letter 'U' - c1792. This lovely large ladle weighs in on my scales at approx. 155 grams.
This lovely rare Georgian Irish ladle has been used and shows signs of use, there are a few small impressions to one side of the bowl which I have been informed could be professionally smoothed out, however given this ladle is 220 years old condition is generally very good to excellent - as always I have left it in it's original state (please see pictures and make your own mind up). On the whole a very nice collectable ladle with a clear cartouche from a sought after Irish maker.
