HUF is the brainchild of Keith Hufnagel who grew up skateboarding in the gritty streets of New York City in the late 1980s. In those days, skateboarding was simply not accepted, it was punk rock, it was hip-hop, it was a counter culture of outcasts misunderstood by the masses. It was a way of life that would ultimately shape Hufnagel's outlook on life. In 1993 Hufnagel moved to San Francisco and soon turned professional for Real Skateboards and later went on to open a boutique skate shop in an offbeat block of San Fran's tenderloin district, he named the shop HUF from the first half of his second name and it quickly came to be well known for hard-to-come-by skate, streetwear and boutique clothing goods.

After the rapid success of the skate shop, Hufnagel found it necessary to start his own line of clothing by the same name of 'HUF', mixing skateboarding, streetwear and sneaker fashion into one brand. Nearly a decade later, HUF has grown into an independent manufacturer of premium apparel, footwear, Plantlife socks and skateboarding goods.

HUF has a top line of professional skateboarders such as Keith Hufnagel, Josh Matthews, Kevin Terpening, Brad Cromer, Dan Plunkett, Joey Pepper, Dylan Rieder and Austyn Gillette.
