33" Fashion Poupee By Gaultier For Exhibition In Antique Silk Gown C. 1867

Before Pierre Franocois Jumeau made bisque doll heads, Blampoix, Barrois, and Francois Gaultier had a tight grip on the market of extremely high quality bisque heads for poupees, with Gaultier at the cutting edge of new production techniques and stylizations. She has the palest bisque head with expert painting of features, delicate attention paid to lashes, brows and lips. Exquisite blushing of cheeks and mauve eyeshadow, as well as perfect sculpting of ears with blushing to top. Dramatic dark eye liner and perfect branching lashes. She is on her beautiful original kid body with a few patches, but in overall excellent condition, save the professional replacement of one kid arm. Individually wired toes, and full gusset joints at the knees, hips and elbows. She is wearing a custom made mohair wig in elaborate updo with beautiful coiled spirals in a half up, half down style, typical of the late 1860s. How beautiful!

She is wearing an incredible couturier made ball gown of an antique gold metallic threaded black silk with antique black and gold patterned panels and trim. I have a feeling that the gown may be original to her, and all antique, but I could not swear by it, so I will say that I believe it is most certainly constructed out of antique fabrics and materials, it fits her to a tee, and is just incredible on. The dress is fully lined, with beautiful boning on the bodice, with an extravagant open collar, and black silk lace that was hand beaded with black jet beads. There is some wear to the lace, it is delicate, it has disintegrated in places. Underneath she has a full set of undergarments including pantaloons, half slip, and chemise top that will be included with her though she can't wear it under her ball gown. (the collar is too high.) She has exquisite black net lace socks, and original, antique fashion poupee shoes of brown leather with large buckles and heels. She is completed with a black choker, coral earrings and a brass and diamond victorian bar pin. She is divine.

Condition: Excellent. Her bisque is pristine, the modeling is wonderful, the plate is in mint condition as well, with delicate modeling of shoulders (especially visible in dramatic lighting.) She has a very special, very unusual face, and her large size really makes her all the more spectacular, with every painted detail 3x the size it would be on a more regular sized fashion poupee. Her left arm his a later, hand stitched, beautifully crafted replacement arm, but it is no less beautiful on her. We have not removed the head from the body, and will not do so, as it is very securely attached. We are happy to answer any and all questions about her beautiful, large Mademoiselle!
