Original WW-2 era British No. 7 Mk1/L (Land Service) bayonet & metal scabbard for Lee Enfield bolt action rifle and Mk V Sten sub-machine gun; a rare type. Only 176,000 of these difficult to manufacture bayonets were made; this specimen was manufactured by Royal Ordinance Factory. The "seven" was a very innovative but complex design with a unique swiveling pommel; certainly a design "over-kill" for a nation at war. Part knife-bayonet and part socket-bayonet, the No. 7 Mk-I/L could be mounted on Lee Enfield No. 4 bolt action rifles AND on Sten sub-machine guns AND it could be used as a fighting knife. Despite all of it's versatility, the "seven" was not used in combat during WW-2. Although capable of mounting to the No. 4 rifle, these bayonets were used as intended only for ceremonial purposes on some occasions. Just a small quantity of these unique bayonet-knives survived post-war.
The bayonet is unused and it is still has the rust-preventing cosmoline on the blade (cleanable with mineral spirits, if you wish to do so). Original factory edge; the tip is intact. Paxolin handle (a resin composite) is in excellent shape; bayonet release and swiveling lock mechanisms are perfect and 100% functional. This bayonet/fighting knife is about 12-5/8" / 32 cm overall; the blade is about 8-1/8" / 21 cm. Blued metal scabbard not painted; probably not original to the knife; it is also in unused condition; there is no frog.
This WW-2 era bayonet has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way; it is in 100% original "as-is" condition; these are the actual photos.
