One pair of men's (or women's) vintage Dayella socks by Viyella.

The colour is grey.

Made in England,  in the late 1940s.

They were unsold shop stock from the 1940s, and have been in storage at the shop ever since.

They have Viyella's slogan on:

DAY & NIGHT WEAR.

There is no garment composition marked on the socks. 

They appear to be a wool and cotton mixture.

As you can see from the photographs, the labels have been deliberately defaced.

This has been done to the whole batch of socks.

The codes below the defaced section suggest that the CC41 "Utility Mark" has been removed from the socks.

Presumably this was because they were made right at the end of the period of clothes rationing in Great Britain, so the mark was no longer needed.

This would date the socks to the late 1940s.

Size

These socks are marked with SOCK sizes - this is based on foot length (in inches), and is NOT the same as shoe sizes.

Here is a guide to help you choose the right size.

• Sock size 10  1/2"...............UK shoe size 8 (adult) approximately

Please remember that these are very old socks, and they will need to be handled with care.

They are not as stretchy as modern socks.

Condition

Unused vintage stock.

Please be aware that the socks are well over half a century old, and if you wish to wear them, they will need to be hand-washed first.

There is no damage visible, but they are obviously not likely to last long in normal use, because of their age.
