The North Yorkshire Moors Railway Letter Stamps set a new standard for Railway Stamps in the UK, producing high quality perforated stamps using commisioned photography and artwork, professional publishing and design studios, and internationally recognised stamp printers such as Walsall Security Printers.  Much of the credit for these prestigious stamps is down to the dedication of Margaret Craggs, the NYMR Railway Letter Service Officer, until her retirement in 2000.  The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (formerly the Whitby and Pickering Railway) was reopened to the public on 22nd April 1973.  The line runs from Whitby to Pickering, serving Grosmont, Goathland, Newtondale Halt and Levisham.  The NYMR signed the agreement for the Railway Letter Service in August 1976, but didn't introduce the Service until April 1981.
