Expert Sleepers ES3 Mk4 Lightpipe CV Interface Module
8 Channel ADAT/Lightpipe interface for Silent Way or similar software-based modular integration
The ES-3 is a Eurorack format module which converts eight channels of ADAT Lightpipe input to DC coupled outputs on 3.5mm jacks, for the ultimate convenience in connection of a DAW directly to analogue synthesizers.
The outputs can be used as control voltages (CVs), for example with software such as Expert Sleepers Silent Way, and can also be used as audio outputs at high, modular synth-compatible levels.
With the ES-3, a single optical cable is all that is needed to bring direct CV control from your DAW right into the heart of a modular system.
February 2017 sees the launch of the "ES-3 MK4" - Functionally equivalent to the ES-3 MK3, the MK4 adds these improvements:
- Illuminated jack sockets
- Less deep
Setup is extremely simple:
- Install the module in a suitable Eurorack case.
- Connect a TOSlink optical cable from the ADAT output of your audio interface to the input of the ES-3.
- Turn on.
That really is it. There are no switches, trim pots etc. to set up or configure. The ES-3 is now acting as an extension of your audio interface. Any signal you want to come out of the ES-3's outputs, simply route in your DAW to the interface's ADAT output channels.
Power:
The power connector is Doepfer standard. If using the power cable supplied with the ES-3, the connector is keyed and will only insert into the ES-3 the correct way around, in which case the red edge of the cable is nearest the edge of the PCB, and carries -12V. Be sure to connect the other end of the power cable correctly, again so -12V corresponds to the red stripe on the cable.
The ES-3 can safely be used in a i15V system with a suitable adaptor cable.
