Made in England- Very Flexible Nib

Hallmarked Sterling Silver Bands~ BCHR - EYEDROPPER PEN

OVER & UNDER FEED

Please enlarge all the photos & read all the text for detail

    • Very collectible, very clean & straight very early pen , If I am correct by looking at the hallmarks the pen was made in 1902, the year after Queen Victoria passed away- (this is a 115 year old pen I believe), a full 6 & 3/8" posted, 5 & 3/8" capped, very presentable & attractive,- no cracks, no warp, No personal names, Perfect cap lip, ~ Fun pen! , - The cap is a slip (straight fit) and it fits on & posts very well is somewhat tightly, which is much better than not tight enough :-)

  • There are 2 Sterling Silver mounted bands, One band on the cap, & the other on the barrel, Each band has one nub or bump as shown, The barrel band has 2 hallmarks as shown, one is the Sterling Lion, The other "g" (1902) if I am correct - the hallmarks are excellent - the only other marks are "14CT" on the nib & "No.3" on the end of the pen as shown.
  • Wonderful Clear BCHR Chasing pattern as shown
  • This is an Eyedropper Pen , The section threads are perfect. I have put a dab of silicone grease on these threads ( see photos of disassembled pen)
  • Relatively primitive pen, If you are looking for an old pen that behaves like a new pen this pen is NOT FOR YOU, & probably not for the beginner fountain pen user or beginner flexer either. Like these pens wrote originally , you may have hard starting some times, dip the tip in ink for this, and sometimes an ink blob may occur, watch the nib for ink build up & tip up the pen, keeping the pen full will help as the heat from your hand can expand the air in the barrel and push the ink out faster than when the pen is full of ink, Or keep a blotter around like they did in the old days..  (the pen is basically a dip pen with an ink tank & feed)
  • a Very wet flexy writer, lays down a lot of ink.
  • The early gold nib is marked "14ct", but it is hard to read as the over feed covers this, just the sides can be seen, ~ Very good iridium tipping, Just a light hand is needed for normal fine point writing. Very flexy, (easy flex) with nice line variation, Goes from a Fine to 2.0mm, but I would stay to 1.8mm to preserve the nib ~The nib is quite clean, bright & straight, it shows some patina/tarnish but it still quite a performer , ~  Great for Copperplate / Spencerian writing, & expressive writing ~ :-)
  • The Paper is from a Rhodia Dotpad No. 16, the dots are 5mm apart to help you gauge the line variation. The inks are Waterman South Sea (Inspired) Blue & Diamine Monaco Red, also Robert Oster Khakhi Green. ~ writing sample shown was made by actually filling the pen with ink & writing with it :-)
