This is an ORIGINAL, RARE and MINT condition USN M-421a Summer Flying Jacket, as issued to naval aviators in WWII and into the Korean War era. A discussion of these jackets can be found on the US Militaria Forum in a posting entitled "Deadstock USN m421a Flight Jacket", dated January 13, 2013. This jacket, albeit by a different manufacturer, is the equal of the jacket in the posting. The lower left pocket has a similar, smaller paper tag also indicating size 42 (cannot be easily photographed).
The jacket is made of light poplin khaki fabric with one chest pockets and two at the waist, all closed with buttoned flaps. The jacket has a zippered front and the Talon zipper is functional with a leather pull (see images below). All buttons on the pockets are original and present. The sleeves have bi-fold swing "gussets" on the back to facilitate movement of the pilot's arms in the cockpit. The inside of the jacket has the usual woven manufacturer's (H & L. Block) tag (see image below). The actual measurements of the jacket are as follows: chest 23"; sleeves 24.5"; shoulders 19"; waist 23"; and overall 27". The jacket has no holes, rips, tears or blemishes to the fabric.
Here's a rare opportunity for the advanced naval aviation collector or re-enactor to obtain an increasingly rare USN flight jacket in unexcelled condition. The buyer will have my usual unconditional guarantee of authenticity and a five-day right of inspection and return/refund privilege, excluding postage.
