This auction is for a 2014 Celestron Nexstar 4SE with StarBright XLT multicoated optics, the original front dust cap, original dust cap for the built-in 1.25-inch diagonal, the original dust cap for the straight-through viewing adapter barrel, the original finder base, and original Vixen-style dovetail base plate. The scope has been gently handled and its optics are extremely clean.
Though a finder is not included, it will hold MANY Celestron and Orion-made finders as the finder base mount works en dovetail format. Many red dot and 50mm optical finders will fit to it.
The focuser uses 1.25" accessories.
The dovetail base plate (male) is a Vixen-style formatted size. This means this scope will readily mount to ANY Nexstar singler arm mount that accepts Vixen dovetail plates, it will fit to the Vixen Porta altazimuth mounts, and it will fit to equatorial mounts like the CG5 (AST and AVX as well as the original CG5), CG-4, Omni-4, Great Polaris, Great Polaris DX, GP-2, GP-D2, the Vixen Sphinx-series mounts, and the Meade LXD-55.
Optical performance is about the same as a well-crafted Celestron C90, though the images will be much brighter with the extra aperture. It is very apt for nature study, viewing the Moon, main planets, solar observation (with solar filter of course!), and the brighter deep sky objects like M13, M22, M8, M42, the Double Cluster, M31, and M29 to mention a few.
**Spots you see on the mirror in Photos 9 and 10 are simply reflections from my drop ceiling. They are not defects on the mirror!**
At 14-inches long from front cap end-to end of the focuser knob, it is easy to transport and takes little space in the car. It weighs 5 pounds 5 ounces as seen in the photos and so will work with MANY small and medium size equatorial mounts.
If attaching to an older mount that requires hinged tube rings, the dovetail base is very easy to remove and use for later.
