I am a sucker for a good novelty print and this berkertex
continentals dress really is one of the loveliest novelty prints I have come across
in a while! The print reminds me of an antiquarian vase a kind of Wedgwood
style design but in bright colours. It is such a perfect summer holiday dress
with its short-capped sleeves and wonderfully full pleated skirt. I can just see it teamed with some little
peep toe shoes and some cat’s eye sunglasses. Oh if only it fitted me!
Measurements:
Waist: 30in
Bust: 42in
Length: 38in
Approx a UK 12 possibly a 14.
Condition: Some minor fraying and a small tear around the
armholes- but nothing major. All damage is consumerate with the age of the
garment. The dress has been shortened BUT the full length of the dress is still
there. So it can easily be taken back down to its full length.
This week is prints week think polka dots, florals, stripes, the lot! Not only that, but there is something to suit every taste with not just vintage items, but newer pieces too. There is everything from 50s Horrockses esque florals to novelty vintage whimiscal prints, and even some more modern polka dot pieces.
A little bit of
background on me: I am an obsessive vintage collector and have amassed a huge
collection of vintage from Victorian right through to the 1980s. I am about to
embark on a rather pricey masters at the Royal College of Art (studying design
history) and henceforth I am having to sell off large portions of my collection
to fund my studies. Over the coming weeks I’ll be listing everything from
glamorous 30s evening dresses, to novelty print 50s day dresses to 60s beaded
shift dresses. I can’t believe myself quite how much I have amassed! I am also selling items from the collection of Naomi Thompson, including items that featured in her recent Style me Vintage: Clothes book.
