This auction is for what may well be THE best original 40s coat that you will EVER come across. The coat is simply pure glamour, and I am only sorry I can not photograph it properly to do it justice (I’ve over exposed my pics to give you an idea of the details!). The coat is edge to edge style with no fastenings. It has a matching belt which fastens with a simply sensational original Bakelite buckle in the Art deco style- although this coat is post Art deco. It has a lovely hourglass shape accented with typically 40s shoulder pads. It then has amazing inverted pleat details in the sides for added “flow”.
Now the label. Not your typical cc41 label you’re thinking? This is infact the luxury cc41 label- or what is colloquially known as the “dinner plate” label It is thought these labels were produced after WW2 finished (used between perhaps 1945-52) and denoted a luxury garment. This piece certainly seems to be a luxury item!!! It really is glorious. It also has another label Roqant, which appears to be a luxury manufacturer of the period.

Fully lined in what i think is a lightweigh crepe. (unusual to see linings on anything cc41- but this is later so I think this is why!!!)

Bust: 38in
Waist: up to 30in
Length: 44in
Roughly suited to a 10. Possibly even an 8 if you are broad across the shoulders
Condition: EXCELLENT. I can not fault this beautiful item!!!

A little bit of background on me: I am an obsessive vintage collector and have amassed a huge collection of vintage from Victorian right through to the 1980s. I am about to embark on a rather pricey masters at the Royal College of Art (studying design history) and henceforth I am having to sell off large portions of my collection to fund my studies. Over the coming weeks I’ll be listing everything from glamorous 30s evening dresses, to novelty print 50s day dresses to 60s beaded shift dresses. I can’t believe myself quite how much I have amassed! I am also selling items from the collection of Naomi Thompson, including items that featured in her recent Style me Vintage: Clothes book.
