For your consideration is a very nice MAMOD STEAM TRACTOR - Model # TE1A. It was manufactured by Mamod of England, but I do not know the year - it is an early/older model which you can tell by the fuel that it burns. These steam powered engines are NOT TOYS! Water is heated to the boiling point to produce steam which is used to drive the tractor and should be treated accordingly! These very realistic models (Similar to a Turn-of-the-Century Avery Tractor) are powered by very efficient steam engines. The older tractor models burns Methyl Alcohol (see pict #6) newer ones use dry pellets for fuel - the alcohol models are much easier to get going - you just fill the boiler with water, fill the burner with Methyl Alcohol until it is saturated & then light it - there is enough fuel in the burner for a good run, but not enough to burn boil it dry which is a very nice feature. This tractor is fitted with a reversing speed control, forward speed control, water level control plug & a steam whistle. Steering is easily accomplished by turning the top of the smoke stack with your fingers. This tractor comes with instructions for operation and although it looks complicated it is very easy to use and enjoy. I purchased this item at an Estate Sale in Charleston, SC, but I have not made any attempts to operate it - sold as is. A Mamod Steam Tractor is a wonderful educational piece for kids - a display piece for a collector or a fun item for a Saturday afternoon.
