eBay

You have found it. This is what you have been looking for all these years. You've wanted one forever. It's the missing piece of your Apple collection. It's your holy grail.

It is a Macintosh SE/30 with a Micron Xceed Color 30HR PDS video card, original Micron-made internal grayscale adapter, and wiring harness. Saying "there aren't very many left" is an understatement.

You know you want it.

The good:

  • Complete, working Micron Xceed setup installed, including card, original (not a replica) grayscale CRT adapter, wiring harness, and external monitor port bracket.
  • Comes with accessories! A period-correct, wonderfully clicky Apple Keyboard (M0116) and Apple Mouse (A9M0331, the trapezoid-shaped one) are included, as is an AppleCD 300e Plus CD-ROM drive, and an Apple Legacy Recovery CD with all the various system software versions, and other software.
  • 64 megabytes of RAM installed!
  • Fresh PRAM battery!
  • 1-gigabyte hard drive!
  • Socketed 68040! Ready for your Daystar accelerator board, you lucky dog.
  • A ROM SIMM that may not be original to the computer! (Part number searches were inconclusive; the SIMM is pictured above.)
  • By the time this auction is done, will have a fresh install of Mac OS 7.6.1!
The "eh":
  • Will need its capacitors replaced, as with all compact Macintoshes that haven't had that done. Kits can be found elsewhere on eBay; presumably, if you're considering buying this, you've done it before or have the know-how and soldering skill required.
  • I could not get it to address more than 20MB of the installed 64MB of RAM. I think this is either a software problem (which I may be able to fix, at which point the auction will be updated), or the SIMMs need to be cleaned and/or kerjiggered, assuming they don't just need replacement. Machine still hums along with 20MB (they came with one megabyte).
I have finished wiping the old OS, and am working on installing Mac OS 7.6.1. By the time this auction finishes, it will have 7.6.1, Stuffit, and all other relevant utilities, including the Micron card control panel.

You know what you have to do. Bid away!

REVISION: The supposed 64 megabytes of SIMMs may actually be a mislabeled 20 megabytes of SIMMs. The labels say "8MB", and they seem to be populated with eight 1-megabit DRAM chips, but I cannot say for sure whether they're actually 8 megabytes each.

REVISION 2: by 1-megabit I mean 8-megabit. Someone pointed out that the SIMMS labeled "8MB" may be part of a set providing eight megabytes of RAM total. I will be including a few assorted SIMMS with the Mac so you can mix and match as you choose.

REVISION 3: By "socketed 68040" I mean "socketed 68030". SE/30s didn't come with 040 processors; that was a typo.

REVISION 3: I have finished reformatting the hard drive and installing System 7.5.5, which is apparently the last version supported without a 32-bit clean ROM. I have confirmed that it only has 20 megabytes of RAM installed. Sadly, Stuffit got lost in the shuffle.

REVISION 5: The above revision is incorrectly marked as Revision 3. It is actually Revision 4. We apologize for any inconvenience.
