Early prototype television receiver, made for testing of electronic television in 1936. During late 1935 and early 1936 RCA manufactured a few nine-inch field test television receivers. In 1936 they made about 100 of the RR-359B, using a 12 inch tube. They were located at various points within a radius of 50 miles of RCA’s transmitter on the Empire State Building. These, together with field strength measurements, gave detailed information as to the effect of the terrain on the received pictures. They also facilitated obtaining data on the reaction of a great variety of people to different types of programs. These sets are extremely rare. 11 are known to survive, and 6 of these are in museums. They rarely come up for sale. The cabinet of this set is in excellent condition, as are the two chassis. The set is complete, but the CRT is broken. The original tube was a developmental version of their 12AP4. This set can be restored to working condition, with a 12AP4 as the CRT. We will not arrange shipping, but will cooperate with the shipper you select for pickup. More information on the RR-359B can be found on the Early Television Museum website.
