The winning bidder will play with the very best in golf in the prestigious invitation-only Championship held over three of the world’s finest links golf courses: the Old Course at St Andrews, the Championship Course at Carnoustie and the Kingsbarns Golf Links from 5 - 8 October 2017. The Alfred Dunhill Links Foundation will donate all proceeds will go to The St Andrews Pilgrim Foundation (Charity Number SC029297) who work to preserve buildings in the historic town of St Andrews.

 

The St Andrews Pilgrim Foundation funds the restoration of historic monuments and buildings in the Home of Golf and its patrons include Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Sir Nick Faldo, Tony Jacklin, Sir Sean Connery and Colin Montgomerie. 

 

With US$5 million total prize money, the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is one of the most celebrated tournaments in world golf. The winning bidder will play alongside top professionals and leading amateurs during four days of championship golf. Previous professional and amateur participants include Rory McIlroy, Darren Clarke, Ernie Els, Sir Nick Faldo, Padraig Harrington, Dustin Johnson, Martin Kaymer, Paul Lawrie, Colin Montgomerie, Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel, Branden Grace, Lee Westwood, Bill Murray, Jamie Dornan, Hugh Grant, Andy Garcia and many more.

PROGRAMME OF EVENTS

 

Tuesday 3 October:   Practice round. Welcome Party – where all the teams are announced and the winning bidder will be drawn with a professional to play in the Team Competition

 

Wednesday 4 October: Final day of practice rounds

 

Thursday 5 October: Round One

 

Friday 6 October: Round Two

 

Saturday 7 October:  Round Three. The field then reduces to leading 60 professionals and 20 leading teams. Attend the Championship  Dinner in the evening

 

Sunday 8 October: Final round is played over the Old Course at St Andrews

 

If you are the winning bidder but subsequently breach, or are unable to comply with, any one of the enclosed Additional Terms, the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship Committee reserves the right to refuse entry to the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. As with all eBay auctions the placement of a bid in this auction is legally binding.

 

The auction is available through the generosity of the Alfred Dunhill Links Foundation (charity number SC042414) and is open from 16:00 BST on Monday, September 11 until 16:00 BST on Monday, September 18 2017 in aid of The St Andrews Pilgrim Foundation (Charity Number SC029297).

 

Payment will be made to the Alfred Dunhill Links Foundation for The St Andrews Pilgrim Foundation, which will be the ultimate recipient of the funds.

General Information


In order to place a bid for this auction you will be required to be a member of eBay and to have accepted and abide by eBay's Terms and Conditions (click here to join) and you will be required to become a pre-approved bidder for this auction (“the Auction”).



All bids placed for the Auction will be subject to eBay's Terms and Conditions and the following Additional Terms and Conditions ("the Additional Terms") which apply to the sale of this Amateur Playing Spot in the 2017 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship (“the Championship”).  In the case of any inconsistency between eBay’s Terms and Conditions and the Additional Terms, the Additional Terms shall prevail.

 

The Championship is run and managed by the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship Committee (“the Championship Committee”), which is a committee set up by Alfred Dunhill Limited.  In these Additional Terms, any reference to the Championship Committee shall include a reference to Alfred Dunhill Limited where the context requires it.  This Amateur Playing Spot is the property of and being sold by the Alfred Dunhill Links Foundation (“the Foundation”), but remains subject to the terms and conditions applicable to participation in the Championship as laid down by the Championship Committee.  The Foundation reserves the right to amend the Additional Terms at any time prior to the close of the Auction without prior notice.

 

What the winning bidder will receive


The invitation to participate in the Championship will only be extended to the winning bidder and is non-transferable

Payment

At the end of the Auction and following final determination, an e-mail will be sent to the winning bidder confirming his/her success in the Auction. Alfred Dunhill Links Foundation will contact the winning bidder in the week of the 18th of September 2017 providing details for the payment by bank transfer for the invitation to participate in Championship 2017. The winning bidder will be responsible for any charges incurred in making the payment.

The Foundation trusts that everyone who bids in this Auction will live up to his or her commitment. Bank transfer payment must be received at the latest by Friday the 22nd September 2017. If payment is not received by this date, the Foundation will cancel the determination that an individual is the winning bidder and will at its entire discretion offer the possibility to participate in Championship 2017 to the next highest bidder or hold the item for a future auction.

 

Eligibility

To qualify to enter the Championship, and bid in the Auction, you must be aged 18 or over. The Foundation assumes that by   entering   the Auction (and you warrant that) you have the legal capacity to enter the Auction and agree to the Rules (i.e. that you are of sufficient age and mental capacity and are entitled to be legally bound in contract).  The Foundation and the Championship Committee reserve the right to request proof of age and capacity.

To enter the Auction, you must have a golf handicap of 18 or less and be able to provide evidence of your handicap to the Championship Committee in the form of a handicap certificate and a letter from your golf club confirming your current handicap. 

If you are the winning bidder, you will be required to provide a letter of introduction from your Club Professional (or such other appropriate person as may be approved by the Championship Committee) vouching that your character is suitable for playing in this prestigious Championship.

You acknowledge and agree to exercise due care and attention on the courses and to abide by the Rules of Golf published by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club at St Andrews as an Amateur player.

 

Withdrawal or Cancellation

All Amateur Playing Spots in the Championship are allocated at the discretion of the Championship Committee, including this Amateur Playing Spot. The Championship Committee retains full discretion over each and every Amateur Playing Spot and reserves the right to withdraw this Amateur Playing Spot at its sole discretion, at any time, for security, regulatory or other legal or commercial reason. In addition, the Foundation reserves the right to withdraw this Amateur Playing Spot at its sole discretion, at any time, for non-payment or for any breach of the Additional Terms.  Reasonable notice will be given where possible.  Where the Championship Committee or the Foundation withdraws this Amateur Playing Spot but there has been no breach of the Additional Terms by you, all payments will be reimbursed promptly.  Where there has been a breach of the Additional Terms by you (as to which the Championship Committee and Foundation shall be the sole judges), payments will be refundable only at the discretion of the Championship Committee or the Foundation, as shall be determined by the party effecting the withdrawal of the Amateur Playing Spot.

In the event of cancellation of the Championship or cancellation of the spot in any other circumstances, payments will be refundable only at the discretion of such of the Championship Committee or the Foundation as effects the cancellation.

While you may subsequently elect not to play in the Championship, in the event of cancellation by you, all payments are non-refundable in their entirety.

 

Publicity and Contact

If either the Foundation or the Championship Committee considers, in their reasonable opinion, that the amount of your bid is a newsworthy item, you agree that it may issue a press release stating the amount of your bid but shall not disclose your identity unless and until you win the Auction and only in accordance with the paragraph below.

By participating in and winning the Auction, you agree to participate in publicity surrounding the Championship including the publishing of your details and photographs and video footage, which will be made available in all media and press releases regarding the auction, the Championship, the St Andrews Pilgrim Foundation and the Alfred Dunhill Links Foundation. The copyright of any such images shall be owned by the Championship Committee or the Foundation (as applicable), and no payment or compensation will be payable to you.

You acknowledge that you may be contacted by eBay whilst the Auction is still in progress to remind you of these obligations in order to make this process run smoothly in the event that you are the winning bidder.

 

General Terms

You agree that if you win the Auction, but subsequently breach or are unable to comply with any one of the Additional Terms, or at its discretion as previously noted in the Additional Terms, the Foundation reserves the right to withdraw the Amateur Playing Spot and the Championship Committee reserves the right to refuse your entry to the Championship. As with all eBay auctions the placement of a bid in the Auction is legally binding.

The winning bidder will not infer or imply or state any connection, relationship, and/or partnership between the Championship Committee, Alfred Dunhill Limited, the recipient charities and the winning bidder other than his/her status as the winning bidder in the Auction.

 The winning bidder acknowledges that the intellectual property rights of the Championship Committee and the Foundation are and shall remain the sole and exclusive property of, respectively, Alfred Dunhill Ltd. and the Foundation, and that no license to use any of the Alfred Dunhill trademarks or other intellectual property of Alfred Dunhill Ltd. has been granted pursuant to the Additional Terms or through this Auction.

In the event of any dispute, whether such dispute concerns the conduct or eligibility of the winning bidder, the Additional Terms, Auction results, and any and all other matters relating to the Auction, the Foundation’s decision or the Championship Committee’s decision (as applicable, depending upon the matter to which the dispute relates) shall be final and no correspondence or discussion shall be entered into. 

 Neither the Foundation nor the Championship Committee accept any responsibility for any damage, loss, injury or disappointment suffered by any bidder participating in the Auction or incurred in connection with the Championship or any cancellation thereof.  Furthermore, neither the Foundation nor the Championship Committee will accept any responsibility resulting from any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, or eBay systems, networks or tools resulting in the failure to receive bids relating to the Auction.  Nothing shall exclude the Foundation’s or the Championship Committee’s liability for death and personal injury as a result of its or their negligence.

Any personal data provided to the Foundation by bidders will be used solely in accordance with current UK data protection legislation and will not be disclosed to a third party other than the Championship Committee without the individual’s prior consent.  Failure to provide required information for purposes of participating in the Championship may result in your inability to participate in the Auction.  Personal data provided to eBay will separately be subject to eBay’s Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.

 


The Foundation reserves the right to cancel the Auction and/or amend the Additional Terms at any time without prior notice.   Any changes will be posted on the Foundation’s website at http://www.alfred-dunhill-links-foundation.org/ .  The Championship Committee also reserves the right to amend the terms and conditions to which all amateur Championship participants are subject, at any time without prior notice.  Any changes will be posted on the Championship website.

The Auction and these Additional Terms will be governed by the law of England and Wales and all parties agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
