Price reduced to sell.  Last listing for this amp.

Hi- Its time to start to clear off the shelves a bit here at the Frugal Amps workshop.  I will be selling a few of my amps and other assorted amp related items over the next few weeks.  Many of my amp designs can be viewed along with this amp at my website at Frugal Amps

This is another of my Organ Donor amps.  This started life as a Hammond Organ amp driving two EL84 power tubes using a tube rectifier.  It was a perfect set of transformers and chassis to gut out and recreate a JCM800 2204 circuit.  This is  slightly tweaked from the original circuit in a few ways.  First, I provide the bridged input only.  This gets all the gain the circuit has to offer.  Then I kept the tube rectifier rather than a solid state diode setup like the original 50 watt amp had.  I like a little sag in this circuit and the tube rectifier does just that.  Last, its only 18 watts- not 50 like the original circuit.  This means you can really crank this amp and not get the bleeding ears the 50 watter will give you...or the 100 watt version.  It does have a master volume so you can dial the volume down nicely and still get good breakup and tone.  Last, I used cathode biasing for the power tubes.  This means you can swap power tubes without having to adjust bias. This amp has classic rock written all over it.  Use your guitar volume knob to clean up the tone as its nice and interactive in that way.  I built a faceplate for this amp to dress it up when its cabinet mounted.  The last picture shows an example of what it might look like in a standard Marshall short box head cabinet.  This cabinet IS NOT part of the auction.  Once again, ITS NOT part of the auction.  Finally, the head cabinet IS NOT part of this auction, just the amp chassis.

Like all my amps, I use top quality parts throughout.  Switchcraft jacks, Carling switches, top shelf capacitors and resistors.  Since I build so many amps I like to vary my building styles and for this one I used true point to point wiring rather than a traditional circuit board.  The chassis just lent itself to this kind of a layout.  Its like a sculptor will look at a piece of stone and wait for it to tell him what statue is inside the rough block, so it was with this chassis.  It said wire my this way, and I did.

I made a terrible sounding video of this circuit available here: http://www.youtube.com/user/mmmoser/videos

The specifics of the amp are:

Chassis is 13 1/2" (14 5/8" with mounting tabs) long by 6 1/2" wide.

Uses 3 12ax7 and 2 EL84 power tube for 18 watts of output power.  One EZ81 rectifier tube. Tubes are included and they are good!

Amp has an 8 ohm output speaker load

Amp has a 2 amp fuse

You can mount this amp in any number of small cabinets or for an even simpler setup, just mount it to a wooden board.  Many of my customers build their own cabs or there are many suppliers of cabinets here on ebay.

I build a lot of reproduction or custom circuits in all price and power ranges.  If this does not float your boat something else I make probably will.

I set the reserve on all my amps to reflect what I pay to get the old iron I use in these conversions- and they are not cheap, as well as the parts, labor and love that I put into them.  You want really cheap?  Please look elsewhere or buy a kit and do it yourself- a quality kit is way more than my reserve here.

The rules of purchase are this:  No, I am not shipping outside the USA or Canada. If you have zero or negative feedback you better contact me or I WILL delete your bid.  Paypal is OK but no personal checks.  I will accept a cashier's check - it must clear my account prior to shipping.  I have shipped many amps over the years, so I know how to pack them and shipping is not cheap- I do not make money on shipping. You will want insurance on this item.  Canadian buyers please be aware that you will have to pay some sort of fees shipping this into your fine country at delivery, just so you know.
