FC later FPV Jura was a Fisheries Prorection Vessel built by Hall Russel of Aberdeen, entering service during 1973.  Jura was seconded to the Royal Navy from 1974 till 1977 when a 40mm Bofors gun was fitted.  From this successful trial, the RN developed the Island Class of 7 Offshore Patrol Vessels.  She was sold to Marrs of Hull in 1988 and renamed Criscilla.  She was later renamed N'Madi and was broken up in Portugal during 2001.

Her sister ship Westra is still in service with Sea Shepherd as the Steve Irwin.

I was Chief Engineer on Jura when she was sold to Marr and stood by on her first voyage under Marr ownership .  The bell was in my cabin and as Marr had no use for it their Marine Super said that I could keep it and our Marine Super allowed me do so.

I think that the bell is Bronze, but it may be Brass and with the clapper weighs a tad over 14 Kilos.  It is sound (no cracks) and in the same fair condition as it was in when it was removed from its mount during 1988 with some scratching and dents compatible with 15 years service and a wee square that has been rubbed with steel wool.  The bell is 12" in diameter and 8" high at the shoulder, with the bolt boss the total height is approximately 10".  The clapper was always removed in port, and can be easily remounted on the clapper ring.  It is inscribed "FC Jura 1973 Leith".

I also have an "HMS Jura" cap tally, and this is included in the sale
