SSC Stylus - part finished project

Full rolling chassis ready for bodywork. (chassis number SSC02094)

Sadly , due to an increasing family and decreasing free time, space and money, I have come to the conclusion that I am never going to finish this project. I bought the chassis pack from SSC back in 2002. (£4k). This is for the classic shaped Stylus with the De-Dion rear axle option. The chassis has been built up with Sierra front / rear hubs, new discs front and rear with EBC pads. Suspension is fully adjustable Gaz shocks with coil springs.

The engine, in my opinion, is the best available option for this car. It's the lightweight 20v version of Toyota's 1600cc 4AGE engine. This Silver Top engine with 4x individual throttle bodies has 160hp in standard form and can rev freely to >8000rpm if unlimited. This is the second engine bought for this project - the first 20v 4AGE I sourced from a Japanese importer described as a low mileage good unit. On receipt of the engine it was clear something didn't feel right when turning the flywheel and on stripping the engine, found one f the big end bearings completely worn out. That engine was returned and I decided to pay the extra and purchase an engine from a reputable outfit. This engine was bought from Raw Engineering (£2.5k). The engine is running on OMEX500 programmable ECU. Included with this sale s a Dell wireless laptop running the OMEX software which can be connected directly to the ECU allowing monitoring of all vital stats while running. All parameters including ignition / fuel maps / rev limits etc. can be modified as required and uploaded back to the ECU. To confirm the engine was as good described, it has been stripped in order to measure big/little end bearings/journals, piston ring gap, piston/bore ovality. With reference to the Toyota OEM 4AGE manual (included) all measurements are still within Toyota's spec. The engine was then rebuilt using new gaskets, competition head gasket and a new set of comp valve springs.

The engine is mated to a Ford type 9 gearbox using a custom bell housing, once again sourced from Raw Engineering. The back axle is Sierra 4x4 with professionally modified prop and half shafts.

Also included is a custom made baffled alloy fuel tank and a pair of Corbeau bucket seats.

The engine can be seen running a few weeks ago at the following link. NB the home made exhaust manifold was purely to allow the engine to be run and tested. I was going to make the final manifold after I had purchased the bodywork and located the side exit exhaust.

Part of my excuse for not making further progress with this project is the fact that Specialist Sports Cars ceased trading a number of years ago making obtaining parts very difficult. The good news is that in 2014, the Stylus has been resurrected by a new owner SSC-Stylus ltd. All parts / bodywork is now available once again. I've included the link below.

This rolling chassis would make a great option for anyone wishing to build up a Stylus, having all the mechanicals sorted and allowing them to perform all the bodywork tasks, customising/personalising it as they wish.

Happy bidding. Cash on collection preferred or PayPal
