Offered, one model FH-40H handheld Geiger counter by Friesecke Hopfner of (then) West Germany. This device was used by US and NATO personnel in the 1950s and '60s as the AN/PDR 30 radiation detector.

Very good cosmetic condition. The meter dial is a little faded (from sunlight?) The shell is gray enamel painted steel with a leather outer case. There are 2 scales, roentgens per hour and milli-roentgens per hour. The left dial control varies power input. The right dial has Off (Aus), Zeroing (Nullpkt.), and the 2 scale settings. I have a printout of the operating instructions I will try to dig up and send with the meter when sold.

The unit is powered by a single D battery, no exotic or obsolete types needed. The battery powers a vibrating induction coil inside which provides the high voltage needed to activate the Geiger Muller tube. With a fresh battery in it, the coil does vibrate. THE GEIGER TUBE HAS BEEN TESTED OUTSIDE OF THE UNIT AND WORKS,  but even with the induction coil firing the FH-50H does not register any response to radioactive checks sources. It is a fairly simple device and may only require replacement of select components, such as dried out electrolytic capacitors, to restore full function. I just don't have time to do this.

Weigh unpackaged, 2 pounds, 2 ounces.
