This is the complete color documentary titled "The Bronx is Burning." This film, shot in 1972 during FDNY's "war years," was inspired by Dennis Smith's New York Times Best Seller, "Report From Engine Co. 82" published the same year.  (There are plenty of copies of the book available on eBay.  You owe it to yourself to read this book.)  You can own a copy of this documentary on DVD.  This is the BBC version, which is better than the PBS version in many people's minds.  It is about 51 minutes viewing time.

NOTE!!  The film from which this was copied was not in perfect condition.  In most scenes the color is faded, and a reddish hue has tinged the film.  But the audio is still great and you'll hear enough sirens and air horns to put you right back in the South Bronx in 1972.  I've posted several images from the DVD so you can judge for yourself whether this is good enough for you to enjoy.

DO NOT post negative feedback about the quality of the video.  This is what a poorly cared for 37 year-old vintage film looks like.  Note that I use the latest DVD production software and burner, and only the highest quality DVD discs, to provide you with the best possible playback quality.  I spend the extra effort and cost to deliver the best quality DVD possible to you.

My personal reaction was that the quality of the images bothered me for a couple of minutes, but as the story unfolded and the image quality improved slightly, it seemed like this is what 1972 should look like!  It is a much more interesting film than many of the recent fire scene DVDs you can buy today.

You'll see Engine 82, Ladder 31, Engine 85, TCU 712, Battalion 27, Division 6, Ladder 54, Rescue 3, and a few more.

Scenes shot inside and outside "La Casa Grande" ("The Big House," as E-82's quarters are called), riding through the streets of the South Bronx with sirens screaming and diesel smoke blowing, at several fires (inside and outside the fire buildings), and even the FDNY Medal Day Ceremony where two of the Big House's members received awards from Mayor Lindsay.  See the nozzle team advance the line into the smoky darkness while truckies "open up" the building.  And see injured firemen taken by Rescue so they can fight the beast another day.

The DVD is checked to make sure it plays before it ships.  Shipped to locations in the USA via USPS First Class.  International shipping charges will be added for buyers outside the USA.  Of course, there are no returns for digital media like this.

I've received some nice e-mails from buyers saying they enjoyed the DVD and thought the quality was fine - just what they expected for a film of this age.

I ship within 2 days of payment, usually by first class mail.  Expect to receive your DVD 5 to 9 days after I receive your payment.

This material is in the public domain, is a pre-1978 work, does not bear any copyright marks, is not registered at the U.S. Copyright office, and the sale of this item meets eBay policies on protection of intellectual property.  This is not, however, an invitation to copy my work and resell it.  After all, I found the film and did the work to bring it back for others to enjoy.  Therefore, I claim all rights to the DVD edition.

I hope you enjoy this fascinating look back at a dramatic time in the history of New York City and FDNY.
