You are bidding on a Vintage Promax J-1 Super Jumbo Boom Box Ghetto Blaster. I have lots of photos below, so be sure to scroll down to the bottom of this page to take a better look. Yes, this is the rare and famous Promax J-1 Super Jumbo as used by Radio Raheem in Spike Lee's "Do The Right Thing". I've come across these before, but always with the Tecsonic badge, and never with this, much less often seen, Promax name. This particular example is actually in pretty nice shape, although it does have some issues, these being that both the antennae are missing, one of the graphic EQ slides is missing, the bottom feet in the back are busted (this can't be seen from the front), there's one small screw missing on top, and as you would expect, the cassette players do not work. The radio does work, and sounds great, with all the many crazy lights lighting, the dial light, side lights and center light box doing their thing as they should when the music plays. The controls are typically scratchy from age and oxidation, and the unit should have a good interior cleaning with a good contact cleaner like Caig's DeOxit, but as I said, the radio sounds great and the tuner and speakers are working as they should be. Oh, on one of the cassette decks, the center spindle and spring popped off when I was testing the unit, but I still have them and will include them. When I do set the unit to Tape and press the Play buttons, I can hear electronic hum kick in, so electronically them seem fine, but as is normal with these units, mechanically, the tape decks will need attention. The unit has been in long storage so it could use a good cleaning with a Q-tip, but currently still makes a very nice cosmetic impression. The original AC cord is included (I put it in the battery compartment with the cassette spindle and spring). Please see my photos below to have a look at this nice item.
