This amazing instrument, a 1961 Fender custom esquire was previously owned by Sylvia Massy, Engineer during Rick Rubin produced recording sessions with Johnny Cash for the album „ Unchained „ in 1997 - and performed by many of the famous artist participating in the project, among them Tom Petty, Carl Perkins, Fleetwood Mac and Red Hot Chilli Peppers and no doubt Johnny Cash. This guitar sounds exactly how you would expect a famous producer's - and engineer's guitar should sound like, Like a Million dollar. Imagine what stories this guitar could tell if it were able too! This original 1961 Fender Custom esquire, is except for a back of the neck refin- all original, including original sunburst finish, original pickguard, original pickup  (fully working and included in the case), original neck dating 6-'61, original pots dating 35th week of 1961, original bridge and saddles, original tuners, strapnuts, even the pickguard screws are original. The guitar weighs in at only 3.15kg(6.95LBS) and sounds killer. A copy of the original provenance is included in the sale.

The Fender Custom Esquire with Bound body is a rarity. Only seen now and then. Stunning sort of minimalistic looks, amazing 3 tone sunburst, One single-coil pickup and a three-position selector switch, the 3 way is used not to switch through pickups since there is only one PU, but is used as tone switch, with the switch in the forward position, the signal passed through extra capacitors that rolled off the top end of the frequencies. In the middle position, the tone knob is active, and allows for a wide range of tone, and with the  switch all the way back the tone controls are bypassed entirely, producing a bright, hot lead sound. In the summer of 1959 the Fender introduced the Esquire Custom, A very rarely seen guitar, this 1961 is one of them, and it features with sunburst finish, alder body, bound top and back, and rosewood (slab) fretboard, it was only produced until 1970. This guitar is very clean, shows some scuffing to the sides and a little to the top edge, the pickup is changed for a bare knuckle, but the original is still with the guitar and fully working, it weighs in at a barely 3.2kg, measures 650mm scale length and 42mm width at the nut. The guitar comes with the original brown Tolex case.
