replaces + exceeds VAG # 171.919.803 / 171919803

Repair kit with voltage regulator and heatsink-solution for the instrument cluster of most Volkswagen and Audi Models from the '70s, ‘80s and ‘90s like

  • Cabrio, Cabriolet, Dasher, Golf, Jetta, PickUp, Quantum, Rabbit, Scirocco, Vanagon and Audi Models like
  • Audi Cabrio, Audi Coupe, Audi 80, 90, 100, 200, Audi Quattro
  • no matter from which manufacturer your instrument cluster comes from. It fits with VDO, UN4, Motometer or Hella instruments.

Notice:

Corrado, EuroVan and Passat Models from 1991 - 1997 should use an insulated version of this voltage regulator
with VAG Part Number 357.919.803 - you will find a better solution in my other ebay-items!

When it comes to failures with your fuel gauge or your coolant temperature gauge,
it’s in most cases a breakdown of this voltage regulator - also caled voltage stabilizer!

This semiconductor part is regulating the DC voltage fluctuations in your car and it is delivering constantly 10 Volts DC to the instruments.
This is producing waste heat. Caused by the heating and cooling cycles and power blips all over the years of service, this part is often kind of exhausted.

German Custom-made solution for perfectionists!

This repairkit with an alloy heatsink is a custom-made item, which i fabricate in my private workshop in Germany.
You wont find it anywhere else in the commerce - and i'm glad to help VW and Audi Drivers allover the world with this issue.
The contained voltage regulator from type Fairchild Semi. KA7810A is the most precisely version for the intended use (max. 2% of tolerance)
and it has also been the choice of the Volkswagen engineers for the replecement.

Background:

Factory made, there is a voltage regulator from the brand ITT, type TCA700Y built in.
But this part has reached the end of its lifecycle long time ago and it’s no longer produced (Notice: There are still some no-name replicas on the market).
Even for Volkswagen or Audi this item is no longer available.
At Volkswagen, this part is replaced by the items # 171.919.803 or # 357.919.803 – in both cases they use a “Fairchild Semiconductors KA 7810A”.

Unfortunately, the new part – like any other voltage regulator in a TO220 housing you will find on the market – has another pin layout, compared to the original TCA700Y.
Therefore, the spare part has to be mounted “face down” to the instrument cluster of your Volkswagen or your Audi.
In consequence the voltage regulator will no longer have a proper contact to its heatsink on the instrument cluster!

At Volkswagen, they only putted a little brass spacer on the regulator to be able to mount it on the instrument cluster in first place.

Of course this “simple” solution will work too – the only question is how long it will take for the part to fail.

This repair kit fits as well the pined and the soldered versions of voltage regulators – the pins are not “pre bent” and can easily being brought to the necessary form with little pliers.
The recommended temperature for soldering is about 250°Celsius.

At Volkswagen or Audi this item is offered as part number 171.919.803 for around USD 40,-

It contains the same Fairchild KA7810A as you can get here - but with an adequate heatsink solution and mounting parts for less than the half!

Scope of delivery:

  • 1x Voltage regulator Fairchild KA7810A (factory new)
  • 1x Brass spacer; nickel plated
  • 1x Alloy Heatsink for TO220 housing (modified for the intended use)
  • 1x mounting screw (a bit longer as the original)
  • + a bit of thermal compound (heat transfer paste)

The repair kit comes in a poly-bag with the voltage regulator under an ESD-cover foil, to prevent any damages caused by electro statical influences on its way to you.

International shipping from Germany  - only as recommended priority airmail and proper US customs declaration - so you will get your item as fast as possible!
