Artist Rob Gonsalves Biography
Artist
Rob Gonsalves was born in Toronto, Canada in 1959. During his
childhood, he developed an interest in drawing from imagination using
various media. By age twelve, his awareness of architecture grew as he
learned perspective techniques and began to do his first paintings and
renderings of imagined buildings.
After an introduction to Artists Dali and Tanguy, Gonsalves began his first surrealist paintings.
The "Magic Realism" approach of Magritte along with the precise
perspective illusions of Escher came to be influences in his future
work.
In his post college years, Gonsalves worked full time as an architect,
also painting trompe l’oeil murals and theatre sets. After an
enthusiastic response in 1990 at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition,
Gonsalves devoted himself to painting full time.
Although Gonsalves’ work is often categorized as surrealistic, it
differs as the images are deliberately planned and result from conscious
thought. Ideas are largely generated by the external world and involve
recognizable human activities, using carefully planned illusionist
devices. Gonsalves injects a sense of magic into realistic scenes. As a
result, the term "Magic Realism" describes his work accurately. His
work is an attempt to represent human beings’ desire to believe in the
impossible. Numerous individuals around the world, corporations,
embassies and a United States Senator collect Gonsalves’ original work,
and limited edition prints. Rob Gonsalves has exhibited at Art Expo
New York and Los Angeles, as well as one-man shows at Discovery
Galleries, Ltd., Hudson River Art, Kaleidoscope Gallery, Marcus Ashley
Galleries and Huckleberry Fine Art.
In June of 2003, Simon and Schuster introduced North America and Canada
to Imagine a Night, Gonsalves’ first hardcover book featuring sixteen
paintings. In October of 2004, Sterling Publishing released masters of
Deception. A hardcover book featuring, Gonsalves’ image The Sun Sets
Sail on the cover, and including a 16 page chapter on the artist.
Due to the success of Imagine A Night, Simon & Schuster released
Imagine A Day, a companion book in February of 2005. Followed by
“Imagine A Place” in 2008. Sellers Publishing produced his first wall
calendar for 2009, titled “master of Illusion” and another was released
for 2010. Gonsalves has been recognized as the most famous living
surrealist painter in North America, and is currently published by
Huckleberry Fine Art in Rockville, Maryland.

National Wildlife Gallery was founded in 1976 in Fort Myers, Florida. We are authorized
dealers for major artists worldwide and have a large dealer and collector
base. National Wildlife Gallery has expanded its inventory to
include not just Wildlife but to offer contemporary, modern, western art, pop
art and other genres.
Shipping charges may seem high but we buy many of these listings directly from
the artists or other art galleries worldwide; as items are sold we sometimes
take large losses starting these at such a discounted rate from other EBAY
listings. We have a large in-house inventory that we sale from but in some
cases we may order from the publisher, reseller or wholesaler. In these cases
our total delivery time may be up to 5-10
business days. Our TOTAL cost including our LOW start prices and shipping
costs should still be the lowest anywhere!
Bargain Bin;
has many pieces of artwork at a reduced prices as we offer a service to
galleries and publishers who are looking to liquidate their inventory! Many
times we are not given total descriptions of the artwork, and sometimes the
descriptions may have wording which at one time may have been true but has
since changed somewhat, so please email us with questions before you purchase
or bid. The prices reflect a liquidation cost and sometimes may have
slight imperfections. Please
do not open a case in "Item not as Described" as we will work with
you to resolve any issues. Since many of the items that are
being offered through our liquidation program and items are shipped from art
galleries in both the U.S and Canada, shipping can ONLY be combined if the
items are coming from the same source.
Consignment Artwork: These are items previously owned by our loyal customers, or
come from other authorized dealers, who trust us to sell their inventory for them. Generally
we only sell prints that are in “mint” condition usually with certificate of
authenticity (if issued). Some artwork is accepted by us for sale which
may have slight imperfections which will be indicated in the artwork
description. But these consignment artworks are sold “in good faith” which
means we are trusting the word of a third party and we may not have seen the
item visually at time of sale. Again we
encourage questions before you finalize payment as all consignment pieces are
sold “AS IS”… Contact us if YOU have any prints for sale you would like us to
buy outright or list in our consignment program.
Awaiting Payment: Please pay promptly when you are invoiced as we have several
outlets including EBAY, Amazon, our website and retail gallery that we
sell thru. We do not consider items in awaiting payment as sold and we do don’t
take these listings down until items are paid in full, for so you risk not
receiving/winning the item. Please be advised Echecks are not considered
payment until they clear which can take 7-10 days through paypal, we are not
notified of these payments until they clear and move automatically into
awaiting shipment. If you pay through
echeck, please call us and let us know. This is not our rules, this is how the
eBay/paypal system is set up. We want to
honor your sale if you pay this way, but please make us aware that you paid
with an echeck.
Shipping methods: All items
are shipped in a tube unless you request a quote for flat shipping or
expedited delivery. Our in house inventory also has stretched canvas which
means the canvas is stretch over a wooden frame (please be advised; this does
not mean the artwork is framed) Some
artwork is framed and will be listed as framed.
International Shipping Times & Rates: outside of the continental USA and Canada. Please
request a quote before purchasing the artwork, so you will have a true cost
of the total sale. International
shipping can take up to 14 days for actual shipment depending on artwork
location, as many galleries, consigners, liquidators and publishers will not
ship internationally but we will if it is cost effective for both of us. These shipments sometime mean the artwork is
shipped to our location in Florida (up to 14 days) and we ship to the customer
(up to usps or other third party shipper time frames). So the time frame of the shipping will be
much longer. We do not offer expedited shipping on international
shipment. When requesting a shipping rate please include your city,
and postal code in order to save time.
