Having sold in excess of 50 million records to date – a figure that is still rising and aided by re-releases and new recordings – and the acknowledged influence Sweet have had on many newer and equally successful bands.

Including captions, the work contains approximately 115,000 words and around 500 illustrations. Fantastic, colourful images include photographs, posters, adverts, record sleeves & labels, badges, stickers, tour programmes, Fan Club paperwork etc., much of which has been sourced from the Author's own personal collection.  

Also accompanying the text are period record reviews plus a comprehensive listing of all known concert dates/venues that the band played at within the period covered.

The book follows the band's eventful career in great detail from 1971 through to 1978, aided by excerpts from period interviews where the actual words of the group members portray, with accuracy, their thoughts, ambitions, etc. year by year.  Each year is represented by its own chapter, these generally growing and contracting in content as success and the related increase in work ebbed and flowed. Despite the Author having been an avid fan of the band since the 1970’s the book remains commendably objective and doesn’t shy away from dealing with issues such as drugs and alcohol, both of which played their part in the eventual demise of the original group at the end of the nineteen seventies.  Those reasonably familiar with the group’s history will know at the very least that lead vocalist, the late Brian Connolly, acrimoniously left Sweet towards the end of 1978, and the Author deals with this still thorny issue in as candid a way possible using all the reliable evidence available.
