ÉDOUARD BERNAUT
Édouard Bernaut settled in Paris with his French father and Romanian mother at the age of 16. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts under the landscape artists Jules Adler and Montézin. He was a voluntary conscript in 1914, but was wounded and interned in Switzerland. He exhibited at the Salon d'Automne in 1921, but far more regularly with the Salon des Artistes Français, where he won a number of prizes, including a commendation in 1924 and a bronze medal in 1927. He travelled and painted in Provence, Corsica, the Creuse and Brittany. His Post-Impressionist works recall the audacious colours of Guillaumin.
