For sale here is a very very superb example of Japan's most sought after manufactory Tokai-gakki's, interpretation of the Les Paul Custom.

When new, between 1988-92, this guitar would have been white but it has aged down to a subtle off white with the odd yellowing hue beginning to appaer in places, which lead me to believe that it may be a nitro finish, but not 100% sure.

What is for sure, is that this is very representative of the finest work that the craftsmen at Tokai-gakki could turn out.

The hardware is all high end Gotoh, the machining is laser precise, as can be seen from the pickup rout shots, and as with most Grecos has fret end binding, akin to all bound fretboard Gibsons.

The question for me is the fretboard....it is more open grained that most ebony I've seen, and my head says it's just very dark rosewood, although with a small drip of solvent on the fretboard no dye came out as is often the case with ebonised rosewood, so it could just be a piece of very dark rosewood, however the overall effect and feel is very similar to the two or three late 60s Les Paul Customs I've played.

The guitar is 100% original and although I'd usually swap out the pots in favour of some new CTS and PIO caps, I haven't felt the need with this guitar at.

What I do have here are some superb Parsons Street Alnico V (unpotted PAF type) pickups that I'd be happy to swap in for you at the BIN price, but you of course may have different plans, also included in the BIN price is a quality hard shell case

The neck is a good late 50s rounded grip, and the weight is good at around 8.6lbs.

As yo can see from the pickup routs there is a substantial maple cap on what appaers to be a one piece lightweight mahogany back.

At the BIN price I'll also string with the strings of your choice and set to whatever action you feel you'd prefer.

I have to say that this guitar oozes quality, and I'm sure that whoever buys it will feel the same way.

Vintage value? Nah, don't think so, at least not for maybe another 10-15 years....a great player with top level appointments, fit and finish....absolutely!!!

The only thing I can think of that comes close to this at the moment would be the Edwards Les Paul Customs, but the appointments like fret end binding, fit and thin finish are not their with the Edwards, although you do get a 100% guarantee of an ebony fretboard, and I'm not overly fond of the thinner necks that Edwards seem to favour on some of their guitars.

And don't think I forgot to say Randy Rhoads either:) or Steve Jones, or Mick Jones for that matter, or Mick Ronson....I just didn't wanna use those names to sell a perfectly good guitar.....oh bugger....I just did menetion em....aaah well:-|
