Here is the story behind this system:

To my knowledge, no one has ever created something like this before, so it is currently the FIRST and ONLY of its kind in the ENTIRE WORLD.  It is actually a PROTOTYPE UNIT that I developed while experimenting with different techniques to create a specially themed NES to honor the Blue Bomber.

When I started this project, I had absolutely no idea how to create it, I just had an image in my head and a passion to see it brought to life. It was a long journey of experimentation - trial and error until I figured out something that worked.  Working on and off, it took a year of my life to create, but it was worth every minute.

The backlit Mega Man character was created all by hand, using basic tools. It is composed of around 50 different very small individual pieces. When you look very closely, you can actually see this.

Besides the backlit cut out design of Mega Man on top, I created custom decals for the cartridge door. Similar to when you pull up the Weapon Select screen in the Mega Man games, you'll see his head and how many extra lives he has right next to it. Since it is the 25th Anniversary, it says 25 next to his head.

There are also custom decals for the AV ports on the side and rear of the system that match the new paint job. The original decals were red and grey, the new ones are black and white.

Speaking of the paint job, I knew I couldn't do this alone, so I teamed up with my good friend 'Custom NES Guy'. His skill for painting is almost legendary on the internet. He's been painting cars for ages, and moved on to customizing gaming systems over 5 years ago. He used real automotive grade paint that was applied in exactly the same manner that you'd use for a show car. He used automotive base coat clear coat system, and buffed it to a mirror shine. The black lines along the edges of the system are protected by 3 coats of clear coat.Metallic Blue was used for the top half, and Light Blue for the bottom half, the vent on top, etc.

This project has been a labor of love. I lost track of how many hours went into this months ago. I just had a dream that I wanted to see brought to reality, and I didn't care how longit took or how much it cost me, I was going to build it.

I publicly released the system last month, and it quickly went on the front page of many prominent websites, including: Reddit, Joystiq, Capcom Unity,Destructoid, Kotaku Brazil, The Mega Man Network, Protodudes Rockman Corner, and many others. It was also shared all over Facebook, Google+, and Twitter. I even had so many views on my Platinumfungi website that it regularly crashed for several days straight.

Now here we are. Due to popular demand, I have decided to auction off this system.  I hope to raise money to help create more 'Backlit NES' systems. I've been polling people online, and it sounds like you'd all like to see all the popular characters: Mario, Link,Samus, Simon Belmont, Kirby, Final Fantasy, The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,Ninja Gaiden, Contra, Duck Tales, etc. Given enough time and funding, I'd love to create them all for you :D

UPDATE: Very happy to announce that I'm adding a pair of Mega Man 25th Anniversary themed NES controllers to this auction!! Custom NES Guy and I just finished these up.

The front half of the controllers are dark blue, the back half is light blue. Black lines run along all the edges to help the color really pop. The A and B button are also painted dark blue. I even created custom overlays to match the Mega Man console design while trying to remain true to the look of the original overlays.

Hope you like them!
