eBay

Here I’m offering Infogrames's Call of Cthulhu adventure game "Shadow of the Comet" for MS-DOS.

Included are five 3.5-inch disks, manual, a range of background "feelies" (death certificate, letter, hospital report, statement), an Arkham Planetarium invitation (apparently used for copy protection), inner box and sleeve.

The sleeve shows a bit of edge and corner wear and also bumping in the rear cover's upper right corner. The planetarium invitation has a mended tear on the rear side. (The tape here is coming loose again.)

Games sealed at the lids or within a sleeve may display nominal to light outer wear.

Owing to the age of the media, I offer disk and tape-based games "as is" and without guarantee.

Please note that I've updated our rules below.

Contact: Feel free to write if you have questions or comments. I work at home and typically should be able to respond within minutes during the day (Pacific Time). If your mail comes in at night, I'll reply the following day.

But first please read the full listing. It will answer most of your questions.

Bidding: Please note that my auctions are just that -- auctions -- and not starting points for “Buy It Now” listings or veiled invitations for private offers. I don’t do either. Just auctions.

- I am aware that tariffs on imports are quite stiff in certain parts of the world. However, this is something to be figured into your bids beforehand and not negotiated with me afterward. I will not adjust the reported value of purchases on customs forms or treat merchandise as a gift. (Any customs duties are the buyer's responsibility.)

My auctions end in the middle of the night in certain parts of the world. But note that you don’t have to be physically at the computer to bid: There are many “sniping” services on the Internet that will automatically enter your bid seconds before an auction ends. (One I have used successfully in the past is Auction Sniper.)

- At the risk of stating the obvious, I ship what's listed as it is listed.

I mention this because I've recently received a number of requests that I send just game codes.

Sorry, I can't do this. It's important that sealed items remain sealed when they reach the buyer.

Payment: After your auction ends, please wait for an invoice. I typically send them out after the day’s auctions end. (If you want an invoice before then, just send a request.)

- If you are buying just the invoiced game or games, please pay promptly -- by PayPal only and within three days. (A PayPal account is required to bid in my auctions.) Note that these payments should be made only through eBay itself. That way, your items are automatically recorded as paid and can be processed for shipping more easily.

- If you are planning to bid on additional games, the three-day period can be extended to 10 days.

However, the extension does not kick in automatically. You’ll need to write to me to request it. (Unless I hear from you, I’ll be expecting payment within three days.)

- Please respect our limits for holding games. There’s a great deal of stuff flowing through here, we currently have more limited space for storage than in the past (especially for the larger boxes) and, with as many as 20-25 auctions ending on a given day, we need to move parcels out quickly once the holding period ends in order to make room for new parcels.

Shipping: We ship virtually worldwide. The only countries currently "blocked" are Iraq and Afghanistan, and the post office does not currently ship to Syria.

(Occasionally, temporary shipping issues will surface with other nations. You can read about them on the USPS's "service alerts" page.)

I’ll make every effort to get your purchase in the mail the same day I receive your payment -- the next day (including Saturday) or business day if payment arrives too late in the day.

Unless otherwise noted in a listing, the buyer pays all shipping-related expenses.

However, I keep things as inexpensive as I can.

- No “handling” fees. We never charge for our time or basic costs of doing business like gas or wrapping/packing materials.

- I always look for the cheapest or most efficient shipping allowable -- though I’m also happy to use whatever type of eligible shipping a buyer may request. (See below for details on available methods of shipping.)

- I combine shipping at actual cost for bidders who win more than one item.

- On occasion, there may a small additional fee if we have to buy a particularly large or unusually-shaped box. But we'll always share such expenses with you equally.

- I don’t permit anyone to overpay. When shipping turns out to cost less than forecast (either because of a lower than forecast weight or the discount I receive from eBay), I pass the savings back to the buyer in the form of a refund -- even if it’s just a nickel.

And here’s how I ship:

In the United States:

Parcels of 13 ounces or less go by First-Class mail.

Parcels of 14 ounces to 2 pounds go by Priority Mail.

Parcels of more than 2 pounds are sent by Parcel Select or Priority. This varies depending on the destination's proximity to our location. The price for Parcel Select is usually the one listed for these items, but sometimes Priority will turn out to be cheaper.)

Guide and clue books, when purchased alone, are sent by media mail. (Computer and video games are not eligible for media mail.)

Abroad:

Parcels weighing up to 4 pounds and valued at less than $400 are sent by First-Class International.

Parcels of more than 4 pounds or valued at $400 or more go by Priority International.

- We ship in sturdy boxes.

- Please note that I ship only to verified addresses. (I can’t use addresses that you email to me.) If you need games shipped to an alternate address, please request a total via the eBay system using the address in question.

Everything is tracked these days.

You'll receive the tracking number for your parcel in an email sent automatically when I buy the shipping label.

If you copy and then paste the number into Chrome, you'll find a path (via Google) to the relevant tracking page on USPS web site. (Bear in mind the number can sometimes take a day or two to "kick in.")

You can also get a parcel's current status by visiting the eBay listing page for your game, clicking on "View order details" at the top of the page and then on "Show shipping details."

Please be aware that parcels sent abroad do from time to time get held up in customs. (Typically, this will be clear from the tracking.) This delay usually lasts just a few days, but I've seen bottlenecks endure for weeks. In the event of an unusual delay, you may want to contact your country's customs service.

- If a parcel is returned to us as unclaimed or refused, I'll be in touch upon receipt to discuss your options.

Feedback: I leave it on receiving notification of payment. Please do so for me on receipt if you are satisfied with your purchase.

And please write to me first if you are less than satisfied. I want people to be happy with what they receive and, if something’s amiss, I will quickly do my best to make it right.

My other listings: Check back regularly. I add daily as many as 20-25 new listings of interest to computer- and video-game enthusiasts and collectors and I’ll be at this for a good long while.

- Our daily listings include games for Windows (95-8), MS-DOS (with the occasional Windows 3.x game mixed in), Amiga, Commodore 64/128 (though we're starting to run low) and Sony PlayStation (PS1). In addition, Mac games will surface from time to time -- mostly hybrid PC/Mac versions.

- I also offer vintage computers. I'm moving a little slowly on this front lately, but next up will be a Dragon 32 from the UK.
