Beautiful vintage handwoven cotton and indigo dyed African fabric, made by the Dogon in Mali. Textiles are dyed with the stitch resist dying techniques and each piece is unique. All the ones I will be listing are hard to find, older indigo pieces in very good conditon, with the old dyed patterns, and all were used and soft from wear and washing.

This piece is a nice faded blue color, (due in part to the variations of the blue along with the white color weaving threads), and has an interesting stitch dye design with linear V”/“butterfly” elements, (said to represent Dogon ladders) interspersed with large circle designs.  39" x 56”; 9 heavier weight strips sewn together.

Excellent condition: piece has been washed; unhemmed ends but parts overstiched to prevent raveling;  Only damage is one small, hard to see patch, on a tiny  hole; as is common on most indigos, some seams resewn. This lighter, “worn” blue color is very nice, and very popular

I was lucky to have “first choice” of several large containers of indigos, as they arrived directly from Africa, and have many that I will be selling. I picked ones that were in the best condition, and/or the most unique, but there are almost always a few flaws, which I will note in my listings and photographs.
