JUNGHANS ( EASY SPEAK = YO-HANS ) WAS CREATED IN 1861 BY: Erhard Junghans in
Schramberg, Baden-Württemberg. In 1875 Erhard Junghans' son, Arthur, took over the
company with a focus on innovation yielding no less than 300 patented inventions under his
management. Junghans soon became Germany's, and then the world's, largest clock
manufacturer. JUNGHANS began to produce wristwatches in 1927. JUNGHANS made
the BoUk-1 Fl. 23885 aircraft clocks for German aircraft in WWII. JUNGHANS made
large wrist type chronographs that were worn on the leg of the pilot. JUNGHANS developed
the legendary J88 wristwatch chronograph movement as early as 1946 Beginning in the 1950s, famous designer Max Bill created clocks and watches for
Junghans. An example of his work is a wall clock designed in 1956 that is in the
collection of The New York Museum of Modern Art . Bill also created aesthetic designed,
precision mechanical wristwatches for Junghans.In the late 1980s, Junghans introduced the
first radio-controlled table clock on the world market. In 1990, the first
radio-controlled wristwatch followed, called the MEGA 1.In 1995 Junghans presented the
ultimate combination of the solar powered watch with ceramic housing and solar-powered
technology. Currently, Junghans, in partnership with Seiko, is developing a watch which
will automatically set the local time in what ever respective time zone a wearer i. Say,

Deutsches Reichs GeBrauchsmuster. German Empire Utility Design
The acronym D.R.G.M. with or without punctuation stands for Deutsches
Reichsgebrauchsmuster, meaning that the design or function of an item was officially
registered inside all of the Germany states.
D.R.G.M. registration offered a basic copyright protection for the duration of three years
and included the right to indicate the item status by marking the registered items with
the D.R.G.M. acronym. It was left to the registration owner to include the registration
number as the D.R.G.M. marking alone was the element with legal character. The
actual result of such a registration (the form of protection) was called
Gebrauchsmusterschutz.

The Junghans Caliber J 59 is a well and lean constructed movement with a
diameter of ten lignes, which was made probably in the late 1930's or 1940's.On the lean
dial side, the Junghans J59 uses a yoke winding mechanism, whose minute work cock is so
cleverly constructed, that it hold all wheels perfectly in position, even when the dial is
missing.

CENTER SWEEP
Prior to WWII, most watches had a sub-second register above the #6 position. This design
failed to allow precision seconds timing. The sub-second style dial, with a tiny second
hand rotating around a tiny seconds register at the 6 position, was difficult to utilize
for timing events. In most cases it was ignored. On the other hand, a sweep second hand
could be used to time events, mark events, and was easier to read .
By 1942, the sweep second hand watch had
became "the" watch. Two of the major reasons were the Government issued U.S.A.
A-11 hacking sweep seconds pilots watch and the sweep seconds watches in demand by
Doctors, Medics and Nurses and other professionals.. The sweep second watch simply made
the watch more than an instrument to "tell time"....
THE DESIGN
So, what did Pierce and others do?
Did they re-tool and re-design new
movements? NO!
They simply placed a hollow canon pinion
that allowed a wheeled center shaft to protrude through the dial, mounted a second hand to
it, and ran the combo with the very sub-seconds wheel they were eliminating...

Instead of the drive train turning the dial protruding shaft/pinion at 6
position connected to the tiny second hand, they mounted a large brass/alloy wheel on the
opposite side of the shaft that now protruded through the bridge. That wheel turned a
wheel on top of a NEW center "shaft' held in position be a new this jeweled bridge
that went through a new HOLLOW center cannon pinion in the center of the movement that
then protruded through the center of the dial where a new long sweep second hand
attached; the idea being that one had a large second hand that went round in tune
with the movement and the chapter ring so one could count, time & now even synchronize

German Soldiers in WW2 wore a Winterhilfswerk
"Talisman" with names and symbols of German cities, Towns and occupied
countries. Many also had metal badges from their homes cities, towns and places. The
profits from sale of these "Talisman" were for poor people in winter (for
coal, warm clothes, food), and, after 1941, for warm uniforms for Wehrmacht on the Eastern
Front. Many soldiers wore these Winterhilfswerk tags with the names of the towns which
they came from along with ID/Dog-Tags.
Heidelberg is a the fifth-largest city in
the State of Baden-Württemberg in south-west Germany and part of the densely populated
Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region. Heidelberg lies on the River Neckar in a steep valley in
the Odenwald. A former residence of the Electoral Palatinate, Heidelberg is the location
of the University of Heidelberg, well-known far beyond its and Germany's borders.
Heidelberg is a popular tourist destination due to its romantic and picturesque cityscape,
including Heidelberg Castle and the baroque style Old Town. .
The 24th Roman cohort and the 2nd Cyrenaican
cohort (CCG XXIIII and CCH II CYR) built a fort in 40 AD. The Romans then built and
maintained permanent camps and a signalling tower on the bank of the Neckar with a
wooden bridge based on stone pillars across it. The camp protected the first civilian
settlements that developed. The Romans remained until 260 AD, when the camp was conquered
by Germanic tribes
Modern Heidelberg can trace its beginnings to
the fifth century. The village Bergheim (Mountain Home) is first mentioned in that period,
in documents dated to 769 AD. Bergheim now lies in the middle of modern Heidelberg. The
people gradually converted to Christianity. In 863 AD, the monastery of St. Michael was
founded on the Heiligenberg inside the double rampart of the Celtic fortress.
During the Nasi regime (1933–1945),
Heidelberg was a stronghold of the NSDAP, the strongest party in the elections before 1933
(the NSDAP obtained 30% at the communal elections of 1930. The NSDAP received 45.9% of the
votes in the German federal election of March 1933 (the national average was 43.9%).
Non-Aryan university staff were discriminated against. By 1939, one-third of the
university's staff had been forced out for racial and political reasons. The non-Aryan
professors were sent off in 1933, within one month of Hiler's rise to power. The lists
were prepared beforehand.
Between 1934 and 1935, the Reichsarbeitsdienst (State labor service) and University of
Heidelberg students built the huge Thingstätte amphitheatre on the Heiligenberg north of
the old part of Heidelberg, for Nasi (NSDAP) and SS events. A few months later, the
inauguration of the huge Ehrenfriedhof memorial cemetery completed the second and last
NSDAP project in Heidelberg. This cemetery is on the southern side of the old part of
town, a little south of the Königstuhl hilltop. During WWII and after, Wehrmacht soldiers
were buried there.
During the Kristallnacht on November 9, 1938, Nasis burned down synagogues at two
locations in the city. The next day, they started systematic deportation of Jews, and sent
150 Jews to Dachau concentration camp. On October 22, 1940, during the "Wagner
Buerckel event", the Nasis deported 6000 local Jews, including 281 from Heidelberg,
to Camp Gurs concentration camp in France. Within a few months, as many as 1000 of them
(201 from Heidelberg) died of hunger and diseases. Among the deportees from Heidelberg,
the poet Alfred Mombert (1872–1942) left the camp in April 1941 thanks to the Swiss
poet Hans Reinhart. From 1942, the deportees that had survived internment in Gurs where
deported to Eastern Europe, where most of them were murdered.
On March 29, 1945, the Wehrmacht left the city after destroying three arches of the old
bridge, Heidelberg's treasured river crossing. They also destroyed the more modern bridge
downstream. The U.S. Army (3rd Infantry, 7th Army) entered Heidelberg on March 30, 1945.
The civilian population surrendered without resistance.

Though History denotes the facts of the
Brutality and Horror of the nasi Regime and War machine, many Germans, faced with dim
prospects of the depression, multiplied by war reperations caused by the German folly of
WWI, joined the military believing they were doing the right thing. Many of these
young soldiers, as well as Officers, were ultimately slautered by the Third Reich.
Hundreds of thoudsands died on the field and, ultimately, in the Russian Gulag.
We chose this original photo because it depicts
German officers and enlisted men in 1940, the year when the all consuming Blitzkreig began
and a Victory of a sorts permeated the peoples of Germany, when the educated as well as
the illiterate were lead to belive they were superior to the world, when they were
celibrating what they believed to be their moment on the world stage.
NOTE:
The US transferred 6,000 German officers to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp that now
was under Soviet Union administration. The US also shipped 740,000 German POWs as forced
labourers to France. The U.S. also chose to hand over several hundred thousand
German prisoners to the Soviet Union in May 1945 as a "gesture of friendship".
One million German prisoners died in the Soviet camps between 1941 and 1952

Paul Zorner, born Paul Zloch on March 31, 1920,
was a highly decorated German night fighter pilot in World War II. He was born in Roben
district of Leobschütz, Upper Silesia. Zorner is credited with 59 nocturnal aerial
victories claimed in 272 missions, including 110 night fighter missions.
Zorner joined the Luftwaffe in October 1938 and
began training at Oschatz-Sachsen on 7 November. He attended Luftkriegsschule 2 at
Berlin-Gatow in and in November qualified and was sent for conversion training on
twin-engine aircraft. He was posted as an instructor in July 1940. In March 1941 Leut.
Zorner was posted to KGr.z.b.v. 104. to fly the Junkers Ju 52 transport aircraft. He flew
over 160 missions in the Mediterranean area, and in August 1941 operated over the Ukraine.
In October 1941 Zorner commenced training as a
night fighter pilot. He was the posted to 8. NJG 2 based at Gilze-Rijen to fly the Junkers
Ju 88 C night fighter. In December 1942 Zorner was posted to command 2./NJG 3 at
Wittmundhafen flying the Bf 110 and Do 217 night fighters.
On the night of 17-18 January 1943, Zorner claimed his first victory. By March, he had six
victories to his credit. He was shot down on 17 April 1943 while intercepting USAAF
bombers during the day, force-landed his Bf 110 near Cloppenburg.
He claimed his 10th victory on 25-26 July, a Halifax bomber raiding Essen, but he and his
crewman had to bale out when his Bf 110 G-4 had an engine catch fire. In August 1943
Zorner was made Staffelkapitän of 8./NJG 3. He claimed three Lancaster bombers on 23-24
December, and another Lancaster near Luckenwalde as his 20th claim on 2-3 January 1944. He
claimed another four Lancasters shot down on the night of 19-20 February and five more
shot down on 24-25 February.
Zorner claimed a Mosquito night fighter of 169 Squadron shot down on 20-21 April. Zorner
was appointed Gruppenkommandeur of III./NJG 5 in April 1944. On the night of 27-28 April,
Zorner claimed three Lancasters shot down attacking Friedrichshafen to take his total to
46.
Zorner was awarded the Ritterkreuz in June for 48 victories. He shot down four bombers
targeting railway installations in support of the Normandy invasion on the night of 10-11
June and then three Halifaxes targeting V-1 launch sites in the Pas-de-Calais on 24-25
July.
Zorner was awarded the Oakleaves on 17 September for 58 victories. In October 1944 Zorner
was appointed Gruppenkommandeur of II./NJG 100 equipped with Ju 88 night-fighters. In
February 1945 II./NJG 100 was relocated to Wien-Seyring. Major Zorner claimed his 59th and
last victory on 5-6 March 1945, a B-24 bomber near Graz.
Zorner surrendered his Gruppe to United States troops near Karlsbad on 10 May 1945. He was
then handed over to Soviet Forces on 17 May. He returned to Germany after 4 years of
incarceration in December 1949.
Zorner studied mechanical engineering in
Stuttgart and entered the field of refrigeration engineering before he rejoined the
Bundesluftwaffe in 1956 . He was not passed fit to fly jet fighters and returned to
civilian life in May 1957 and was employed within the chemical industry. He retired in
1981 as a chief engineer with Hoechst near Frankfurt. Zorner was credited with 59
victories recorded at night in 272 missions, of which 110 were night fighter missions
