I'm moving out so unfortunately I'm putting my car on the market.
It is a 1972 Pre-facelift mk1 Capri, daytona yellow with a black vinyl roof.
- Tax/Test until Feb 2013.
- Located in Poole/Bournemouth.
Originally a 1.6 GT but it has been upgraded by a previous owner:
- 2.0 Pinto w/ fast road cam
- 4 Branch manifold
- 5 Speed box
- Janspeed exhaust
- Fully adjustable front struts w/ coilovers and roller top mounts
- Single leaf springs on the back w/ adjustable shocks
- Front disc brake conversion w/ green stuff pads
- Kenlowe electric fan
- Electric ignition kit.
A lot of the running gear came from an '86 capri and I do actually have some documentation for that car as well. This one has a fairly extensive (but not full) history - and many invoices for the work carried out, MOTs going back some time etc.
The car is fully undersealed and I've never had to have it welded. The underneath of the car is very good indeed. The bodywork is also very good - the car is 40 years old this year so it does have some small spots of surface rust in one or two areas - some of the back of the n/s/f wing and some around the o/s/r window. Only the size of a few coins and I have included photos of these areas.
I'm not sure on the original mileage of the car because it has the interior from a 3.0 car - including the 6 pod dash (showing around 90k I think). The interior is pretty rough and ready, some tears in the seats, some trim looking all of it's 40 years old etc so don't expect it to be perfect inside. It is comfortble enough and that is all that matters to me!
The car has been mostly reliable during my 4 years of ownership - I have had the front end of the loom replaced as it was a bit haggard, and have replaced the diff and half shafts. It is very good at starting due to the 'leccy ignition. In 2009 I took it on a Euro roadtrip and it performed fine for several thousand miles.
Some things to be aware of:
- somewhere along the line an exhaust clamp or baffle has come loose and makes a metallic grating noise while the car idles or is under load. It's never worried me too much so I haven't bothered to replace it.
- The front bib spoiler has some damage, not sure what happened but it looks as though it clipped a kerb or something and it has cracked the paint along where it joins the car. I have included a photo of this.
- The shelf behind the rear seats has some damage
- Some of the dash pods are currently not working, mainly the rev counter and oil/battery levels. Speedo works fine, as does temp gauge.
- I have fitted a stereo, but it was difficult to mount so the stereo is a bit rough and ready (works fine though).
Overall the car is in great condition - obviously not concourse but it goes very well and is so so much fun to drive. Perfect for summer cruising, or track days, or returning to it's original state.
No PX. Collection only.
