1912 Royal Worcester WILLIAM POWELL Hand Painted Birds Cup Saucer Fantail Doves

Description

Up for auction is a very nice antique Royal Worcester demitasse coffee cup and saucer set.

This set was hand painted and signed "W. Powell" (William Seaborn Powell, a well-known Royal Worcester artist who began working there in 1898 and retired in 1950; his bird pieces are especially sought after).

The hand painted decoration on the cup and saucer is beautiful.  The doves are accented with raised, stippled sprays of gold and red, set against a lovely blue background.

They are marked as shown in the photographs, and are in very good overall condition with no chips, cracks or hairlines.  Both pieces "ring" when tapped lightly.  There is a fleck of gold trim missing off of the bottom of the edge of the cup (see photos - does not show on display), and there is some glaze crazing on the cup; I don't see any on the saucer.

The pieces are marked with the Royal Worcester marks for 1911 and 1912.   The cup measures just under 2" high, and the saucer is just under 4" across.

We're offering the set here at a low starting price and with no reserve!
