From Sophie:

"Here is my original ukulele, used to record my first two albums. It appears in countless music videos as well as on the original front cover of my 2009 debut album Love.Life.Ukulele. I've had it a long time, it's very special and worth a great deal to me. I hope that whoever wins it will love it as much as I have."

Sophie Madeleine Auctions Ukulele to Fund Cancer Research
Sophie Madeleine is auctioning her prized ukulele to help raise funds for Cancer Research UK. The ukulele featured in many of Sophie's music videos, including her first breakout video for the infamous "Beardsong". It was also used in the recording of her previous albums, 2009’s Love.Life.Ukulele and The Rhythm You Started in 2011.

"I've had it from the very beginning of my career so it's a very special instrument to me," says Sophie. After spending the past few years touring and living abroad, it became too risky to travel with such a cherished item. Sophie has been storing the instrument at her home in the UK, where it subsequently had been rarely played. "I have other ukuleles I can use,” she continues. “Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful instrument but I'd much rather give an un-played instrument to a worthy cause – to someone who would play it and love it as much as I have, rather than have it collect dust in its case."

The ukulele was originally for sale as part of Sophie’s PledgeMusic campaign to help raise funds for her upcoming yet-to-be-titled third studio album. “I had it listed for £2000 because I wasn't willing to part with it for anything less. I honestly wasn't sure if anybody would buy it,” she says. An anonymous donor offered to buy the beloved ukulele on the condition that it is donated to a worthy cause. Since Sophie’s PledgeMusic  campaign has already raised funds for Cancer Research, any money generated from the ukulele auction will be added to the total donation.

She details her relationship to the charity; "Cancer research is a cause very close to my heart. My father died after a long battle with cancer when I was just a teenager. I'd like to do everything in my power to help other people avoid going through a similar experience so I am delighted at the opportunity to raise even more money for Cancer Research. I have been completely overwhelmed by the generosity of my fans during this campaign; they really are a lovely bunch of people. I only hope that my PledgeMusic campaign and this auction can raise as much money for charity as possible in their honour."
