Up for auction are 7 tip cutting of a Greek species Fig Tree 10" to 12" long. I do not know the exact species so I will not speculate. The plants were brought from Greece by a friend. The parent trees of the have been growing in region 6 where temperatures can go as low as a 10 F degrees below zero. The species of figs cutting up for auction are considered a "closed eye" species or very "small eye" since my research has shown that there I no thing as a truly closed eye. The eye opening has never created an entrance for insects so bidders this is not a worry. Also the fruit does extremely well when there is a lot of rain and doesn't have any tendency to crack or explode. Check out the beautiful milk this fig produces when harvested - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7-Kpv5x3J8 The figs are the size of eggs and this seasons 2 crops were more than plentiful as show in my recent pictures. They taste absolutely delicious and have been organically grown. No pesticides have ever been used or chemical fertilizers have never been used on my garden which is totally 100% organic. They are top quality and cannot be found in any stores that I have ever visited. I enjoy eating them fresh, and make I make healthy shakes that are packed with vitamins and nutrients/trace elements. They have been growing for about 4 season and I have planted them close to the house or exterior. They produced fruit the second season after I was given a few cuttings and were covered with burlap until they were safely rooted. The first crop of figs called the "breba" produced delicious fruit this year in July and currently from September to October the second crop has been a bumper crop. Only the first year out of the 5 years I've been growing the figs did I cover them. They have taken root that the only reason would be to protect them from the branches breaking form snow or an ice storm. I would think that if the temperatures hit below 0 F degrees especially for an extended period, you would be taking a chance but where I live the temperatures during winter only rarely hit that cold. The cuttings, (as preciously stated) will be between 10" to 12" long and will definitely have the tips and some nodules. I will say that there are many methods of rooting the cuttings and if you are NOT an experienced gardener, I would advise you to read up or inquire on successfully getting the cuttings to form roots. I'm not giving any "Guarentees" about successful rooting, so obvious, ALL SALES ARE FINAL. Some gardeners use a cloning agent to start the cutting to root, which would no longer make this cuttings organic and these agents come with a advisory of being very dangerous so BEWARE, I would advise using them. I have over 50 years of gardening experience and have taken up fig growing the last 5 years and I'm still learn and there are various method for successful rooting. Some types of plants are more difficult to root than others, research information and TLC is the key. If you are not experienced, read up on various methods. I have found that you do not want to let the cuttings dry out or get too hot so be careful if you are living in a warn climate. The cuttings will be cut from the parent tree the day same day of the purchase and wrapped in moist paper towels and shipped out the same day via Priority mail United States Postal Service. The buyer will pay for all shipping fees and the packing and my time handling is included in the shipping fees. Bid in confidence since I'm Paypal verified and have been on Ebay for over 13 years and have never had a return. I take pride in the items I sell and my feedback record speaks for itself. Please feel free to ask any questions and I will try to answer them to the best of my ability. If you are interested in some addition species of figs, I will be posting them over day. They are purple and of the Italian variety, directly from Italy very much on the same lines as the Greek ones. They are pictured on the dishes with the green ones. |
