I will gladly extend payment up to 7 days if you contact me within 48 hours of the auction closing and update me about your payment.

In this un-reserved auction I have the rare privilege to be offering the Holy Grail of mens clothing! Hand made by Oxxford Clothing from the rarest of all fabrics, namely pure Vicuña fur.  Often referred to as being the fabric of Royalty, Vicuña fabric is far and away the most expensive fabric known to man.

I have a mad passion for this precious Vicuña fabric so this is one of my lengthier write ups. If you are just interested in condition and measurements scroll down to the bottom of the page as they are listed there. For my other customers please join me on a journey that will take you to the most remote location on earth in search of perfection.

The Vicuña coat at hand was hand made by master tailors at Oxxford Clothing. Oxxford Clothing has been constantly rated by the Robb Report as one of the finest if not the finest Clothing houses in the world. Since 1916 their clothing has often been the choice of wealthy and powerful men who needed to project a refined image.  Many American Presidents while in office have had their clothing handmade by Oxxford. Many other notables and heads of state, even the notorious Chicago mob boss Al Capone had his clothing handmade by Oxxford Clothing. I always thought that scar face was a sharp dresser.

This King's Vicuña fabric is the top of the line even for Oxxford! Presently a similar over coat at Oxxford made from their Emperor cashmere cost almost $8,000. If you want to order a winter weight King's Vicuña overcoat such as this the price skyrockets to $45,000.00

Please keep in mind that all Vicuña fabric is not created equal! The finest Vicuña approaches Super 220's wools 12.7 micron rating. As for weight and nap, this coat is made from a heavy winter weight the nap is high and plush. The actual weight of this masterpiece comes to 3.17 lbs of pure un-dyed Vicuña.

Natural Vicuña color is best described as being a rich shade of brown with cinnamon highlights, the most accurate color is usually reflected in the close up photographs and that is the case here. Beside being such a beautiful and unique color it is important to note because Vicuña does not react well to dyes and in the long run it will break down the Vicuña fibers.

Historically Vicuña was prized as much as gold by the ancient Incas who referred to it as the fabric of gods. The Incas believed the Vicuña to be the reincarnation of a beautiful young maiden who received a coat of pure gold. Only the Inca ruler and his high court were allowed to wear garments spun from this divine fabric. Any commoner caught with Vicuña fleece would be publicly executed. The wild Vicuña herds exist only in the Peruvian Andes at altitudes above 15,000 feet, where only angles fly, no wonder this fabric was considered to be so heavenly.

Nearly hunted to extinction, the Vicuña was placed on the endangered species list. Luckily for the species, and all those who would have otherwise never had the opportunity to experience one of the world's most precious natural resources, the Vicuña population has rebounded enough for the U.S. fish and Game department to take it off of the endangered species list, thus allowing for a limit amount of commercial trade.

Below is an interesting Vicuña article from Luxist.

Holland & Sherry, the world famous fabric weaver and cloth merchant founded in Scotland in 1836, is offering an extremely limited edition range of bespoke suits cut from the world's most luxurious and expensive cloth. The firm, which has premises on Savile Row, has woven the world's first 100% worsted spun Vicuña fabric, the most expensive in the world at over $4,000 per yard.

The Vicuña can only be shorn every three years and yields an extremely small amount of fine wool. It took Holland & Sherry five years to gather enough of the exclusive yarn to make 18 suits, each of which will cost about $50,000. The King of Morocco is among the first to place an order for one of the gorgeous garments.

Imagine having an entire suit made from precise Vicuña! But wait there's even a higher level!! According to an article in American Express Departures magazine, Kiton might just have the planet’s last bolt of creamy white Vicuña.

Kiton's fabric warehouse in Naples Italy, is filled with cloth piled to the ceiling—from vintage English wools, to Italian 200s, cloth so fine that producing it involves a technological arms race rivaling the Cold War. All but one are for sale. The one that can’t be had for any price is a bolt, about three yards long, of creamy white cloth.

One client, a billionaire from Asia, flew in to get fitted for a Kiton suit, saw it and offered six figures to have it made into an overcoat; Kiton CEO Antonio de Matteis refused. This coveted fabric was the last of the run, possibly the last of that harvest available anywhere. Kiton was keeping it for their archives.

What could make a cloth so precious? The fabric is made from hairs gathered from the back and neck of the vicuña, a llama-like animal that lives only in the high Andes, and only in the wild—it starves itself to death in captivity—so it cannot be farmed.

Even by Kiton’s standards, the white vicuña isn’t cheap: $115,000 for a coat, $75,500 for a suit jacket. Both, obviously, are available only as bespoke, and customers have to come to the factory for their fittings. Despite, or perhaps because of, that, reservations for Kiton’s next bolt are already being made. “We have collectors who buy from every run,” de Matteis says. “Because it’s a natural color, there are slight variations in each bolt, and they like to have one from every harvest.” If you want a coat made from the world’s finest cloth, you may want to put your order in soon.

A few interesting tidbits about Vicuña’s role in American politics

:Sherman Adams lost his White House position as White House Chief of Staff in a scandal over a Vicuña fur coat he received as a gift.

: Richard Nixon went on television to deliver what came to be known as the “Checkers” speech. At stake was whether Nixon would remain on the GOP ticket with Dwight Eisenhower; at issue was a Vicuña coat purportedly given to him as a gift.

My all time favorite Vicuña moment comes from the classic 1950’s movie “Sunset Blvd”.

William Holden, a flailing screenwriter is taken to an elegant store in Beverly Hills to buy a tuxedo and top coat by his wealthy lover Norma Desmond played by Gloria Swanson. The scene takes place in front of a full-length triple mirror, surrounded by a salesmen and tailor.

Norma says now we need a topcoat.  Let's see what you have in camel's hair. As she leaves the room the salesman arrives with a selection of topcoats. The salesmen states here are some camel hairs, but I'd like you just to feel this one.  It's Vicuña.  Of course, it's more expensive.  Holden tells him that a camel's hair will do. The salesman whispers to him “As long as the lady is paying for it, why not take the Vicuña?” Needless to say in the end he takes the Vicuña.

Back to the coat at hand; hope all of this historic information about Vicuña didn’t bore you. This coat is Oxxford’s Devonshire model over coat. The style is at the same time classic and yet very contemporary. This elegant coat has a natural silhouette that  you look your very best while at the same time projecting a relaxed and comfortable elegance.

The style of this coat is both striking and unique, starting with its dropped shoulders and flowing raglan sleeves. These seamless lines creates a soft and natural look that emphasizes a man’s shape rather then dictating the shape to the man. Please look over the detailed photograph showing the meticulous workmanship that went into this shoulder treatment.

Other fashion details include a single-breasted 5-button front outfitted with hand carved blond buffalo horn buttons.  As you can see Oxxford has designed a stunning and unique collar that can be worn in many different ways. Worn opened it forms soft notched lapels, buttoned up to the throat it forms a small pointed collar. When those chilly winter winds blow put it up all the way to form a high turtleneck held in place by a Vicuña fabric tab with button closure. When not in use the tab buttons back under the collar completely out of view.

Other details include 2 eloquent waist level pockets cut in perfectly and lined in soft flannel to keep your hands toasty warm. Then there are those 3" wide eloquent sculptured cuffed that grace each sleeve. The back features a center vent with button closure for comfortable driving and sitting.

As with all Oxxford Clothing top coats only the sleeves and the upper half of the interior is lined in Cupro Bemberg satin. Oxxford does this to allow you to examine every perfectly cut and finished interior seam. Contrary to what many men think this is a  much more expensive way to make a coat. Linings alow a tailor much more leaway and often cover up very sloppy workmanship. The perfectly finished interior is worth all of the extra expense and effort as it allows the fabric to move with your body in a way that can't be duplicated with a heavy lining.

I have tried to give an accurately description of this coat from top to bottom but it is hard when describing one of the finest garment available in the world so: Please look over my photographs closely as a picture is worth a thousand words!

This Vicuña masterpiece was created for a man who believed that cost should not be an object when it came to his wardrobe. A coat of this caliber is a must have for any connoisseur of fine clothing and its timeless design makes it very versatile and appropriate for any occasion. This vicuna coat represents a great investment in your future!

Condition:  Although I am listing this coat as pre-owned it still appears as new showing no wear, flaws or stains. Judging by the nap of the fur and flawless lining I would say this coat could not have been worn more then a few times before putting it away in fur storage. The interior is outfitted in the signature Oxxford Clothing's Kings Vicuña  gold and brown label. There is also another Oxxford retail store label and the white Oxxford workshop label stating again that it is made from Kings Vicuña.
