Very Fine & Rare Stanley Bailey no. 2C (Corrugated) Smooth Plane - Type 8 (1899-1902) - From my Collection

Up for auction is a very fine and rare Stanley Bailey No. 2C (Corrugated) Smooth Plane.  This plane appears to be a Type 8 dating from 1899 to 1902.  The iron is nearly full length with the Q trademark stamp.

This plane has been in my own personal collection at Virginia Toolworks since 2008, and appears to be in exceptional original condition (meaning unrestored).  As you probably know, the no. 2C is one of the rarest of all Stanley planes.  This one is an excellent collector's show plane and that is why I am asking a premium for it.  Note that the shipping cost includes insurance, which is why it will appear high!

Condition
The body casting is free of cracks, chips, and breaks.  The cheeks, sole, and exposed metal surfaces have a very nice medium gray patina with some color mottling.  The mouth is flawless.  The plane bed has very close to 100% of the original japanning remaining, just a couple of minor abrasions to the rib behind the knob.   All of the fastening and adjustment hardware are clean and free of crud and corrosion.   The tote and knob are beautiful on this plane with no chips, cracks or breaks and very few scars.  The tote is especially pristine with virtually no indication of wear.  It is slightly loose, but can easily be tightened by grinding off a millimeter or so of the tote bolt (if you so choose).  All knobs and adjustment features work perfectly.

Again, I have not done any cleaning or restoration since I've owned this plane.  I don't know its origin or if anything was done or replaced in the past, but it appears to be in original condition, completed with dusty inside corners.  As with all vintage Stanley planes, this one is far superior in quality and workmanship to those sold today.  Too valuable for the workshop, this beautiful plane would make an oustanding display highlight in any collection.

Please look carefully at the photo(s) as they further illustrate the condition and physical characteristics of this item.  I photographed it in both studio light and workbench light so you can get a good sense of what it looks like. I take considerable time to describe each item accurately and in detail. However, certain aspects of an item's condition can be subjective, so please ask questions. THE VIRGINIA TOOLWORKS STORY:

After successfully buying and selling on eBay for over 9 years (well over 750 Feedback ratings with 100% positive ratings), I decided in 1998 to try my hand at a more specialized area of interest. Virginia Toolworks focuses primarily on vintage and hand tools, with a few other random things thrown in periodically. TERMS OF SALE: (Please read carefully before bidding)

I make a concerted effort to provide accurate and detailed descriptions and clear photos for an honest representation of the items I sell. You can bid with confidence that the item will be as described, and will be carefully packed for shipping. Please bid only if you are comfortable with my terms and intend to pay. Non-paying bidders will be reported to eBay.  I reserve the right to cancel bids from those outside the US or who have excessive negative feedback.

In return for your confidence and good faith transaction, you can count on me to maintain an open line of communication, provide timely response to questions or concerns (usually within 24 hours), and updates of shipping status with tracking numbers if applicable.

WARRANTY & RETURN POLICY:

Unless the auction description specifies otherwise, this item is guaranteed to be as I've described it and is returnable only if I have made a mistake in the listing or factual error in the description.  Since vintage items tend to be somewhat subjective, I do not warranty for buyer's remorse or assumptions made about an item beyond what is specifically disclosed in the description and provided in the photos. Read the item description and review the photos carefully!  Ask questions. Some items I sell are not returnable and will be marked as such. Technology items are not guaranteed for system compatibility. It is the buyer's responsibility to research for system compatibility on technology items - this is not covered under my warranty. If you have specific questions about the warranty, please contact me before bidding.

In the unlikely event that your guaranteed purchase is not in working condition as described, please contact me within 14 days of receipt for return instructions.  Refund will be limited to purchase amount only.  Shipping fees are not refundable.  Also, cost of return shipping is the responsibility of the purchaser.  Items returned must be received in the same condition as when sent to you.

There is no express or implied warranty other than that described above.  After 14 days from day of receipt, items are assumed acceptable and are no longer returnable or refundable.

SHIPPING:

I ship via USPS and UPS to addresses in the United States .  This includes shipments made through eBay's Global Shipping Program that are sent through US based hubs. I do not ship direct to any other country unless specified in the auction description, so please do not ask. If your address is not in the U.S. , and/or you are not able to receive UPS packages, please contact me before bidding.  I use the USPS for most items, but sometimes offer UPS for larger or heavier items.  If you prefer one over the other, please let me know before paying so I can calculate the charge.

Upon receipt of payment and confirmation of funds, packages will be sent (generally) within 1-3 business days.  All packages will be carefully packed to avoid damage during transit.  Should a shipment be lost or damaged by a carrier, I will do what I can to help you with a loss claim if necessary.  Once shipped, you will be provided available tracking information via email.

About Shipping Charges - I charge only the ACTUAL SHIPPING COST - no 'handling' fees or other such bogus padding.  Shipping is not cheap these days but it costs what it costs.  Since Ebay holds sellers responsible, I insure virtually all my packages (especially those over $30 in value) and this cost is reflected in your total shipping cost.  This may make it a little bit more expensive, but it protects us both should your purchase get lost or damaged in transit.

FEEDBACK:

It has always been my preferred practice to post feedback immediately upon receipt of payment.  Unfortunately, I have found that many buyers do not reciprocate and never leave feedback for me in return.  Now that eBay has changed the rules for leaving buyers feedback, I will leave feedback only after it has been left for me.

I am a fair and honest person, and ask the same consideration from the people I sell to.  If for any reason a purchaser is unhappy and feels compelled to post neutral or negative feedback for me, or feels that I have not provided a 5 Star experience in every service category, I would really appreciate the opportunity to discuss and resolve the issue first.

I make a sincere effort to provide a good purchasing experience.  PLEASE, take the time to post feedback for me!
