The included PCIe 3.0 x4 flash is the same model as shipped with some of Apple's newer Macs in 2015–2016. Nearly twice as fast as the previous 2013-2014 PCIe 2.0 x2.

2. How difficult will it be to install the upgrade?

Apple provides an official support article for detailed instructions of removing and installing the flash storage of Mac Pro (Late 2013). The procedures are extremely easy to follow and do not require any special training to be performed. If you encounter any kinds of problems during the upgrading process, please contact us.

3. The new flash storage doesn't have a heatsink. Is it safe to use?

Yes. It's not required.
