Scottish artist Francis Patrick Martin, 1883-1966.  Signed lower left.  After Natures Sirens and June Iona, this is the best work by Martin ever to be offered for sale and they made €8,000 and €4,800 respectively.  Guaranteed in all respects.  

Minor damage to frame.  The work is in good condition.  Overall artwork dimensions 32" x 18".  Allegorical work – sunshine on scales weighing more than the gold on the scales.  Classical Greece in the background.  Executed in gouache and oil.

Please excuse reflection of glass in photography.  Will remove glass if shipping outside the UK.  Minor damage to frame – particularly lower left (photographed).

FRANCIS PATRICK MARTIN

Born at Anstruther in Fife, Martin studied at Glasgow School of Art under David Forrester Wilson. He became a General Post Office telegraphist for a time and was commissioned to create a series of posters for the Post Office. Settling in Bearsden, he continued to paint, and had work acquired by the town’s public gallery.

Francis Patrick Martin exhibited to high acclaim during his lifetime: at the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, the Royal Scottish Academy at Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. He was President of the Glasgow Art Club and Secretary of the Royal Glasgow Institute.
