Antique Chinese Curio Cabinet

This curio shelf features six shelves, three open and three with doors, great for displaying statues or storing books. The piece has hand-carved embellished accents and the drawers have golden hand-painted images of traditional Chinese art. There is a complementing cabinet available in the Furniture section of our store, #4106, shown in the last photo above.

The cabinet is newly constructed and painted using 100-year-old Northern Chinese Elm wood, also known as Yumu wood. Throughout China yumu was, and still is, one of the most common woods used for making furniture. Of medium density, it is easy to work with and quite resistant to decay. Its relatively pale color and long and elaborate vertical grain make it an excellent wood for heavy lacquer work. Recognized as a hardwood in western terms because of its deciduous nature, the Chinese classify yumu as a softwood because it is porous enough to hold color.
