Wow,Here is a real "time capsule"!You are bidding on a vintage Slingerland "Radio King" drum set from the early 1940s.I recently aquired these from the original owner who bought them brand new from a dealer in Zanesville,Ohio in 1943 as he remembers. He used them sparingly in a dance band during the war years, and a couple of years after.Since then,he would play them now & then in his home, and they were taken care of and kept in a game room upstairs. This is a true one owner set,and really hard to find in this condition any more.Sorry, but no international bidders on this set,due to the size of the bass drum, and I won't split the snare drum seperately,as these drums should stay together.Offered at "no reserve",so bid early & often. Here are the details:

All drums came together, and have their original white marine pearl finish, which has yellowed evenly over the years. The bass drum & toms have the "streamlined" lugs while the snare drum has  double "beavertail" lugs, and all hardware is nickel plated. All calf heads are original, and have the Slingerland Radio King ink stamp on every one.I did put a Remo Ambassador batter head on the snare drum, but will include the original.

The bass drum measures 14 x 26",with 10 single tension lugs on each side. The hoops are in great shape, and all inlays are intact. The inner reinforcement hoops are tight to the shell, with factory bearing edges. The tension rods & claws are all original,as are the calf heads!Has the aluminum "cloud badge" with the red engraving. The pearl finish has no cracks or splits, and will shine up nicely with a good polishing,as will the nickel plating.

The toms measure 9 x 13",and 12 x 14" and are also in great shape with no cracks or splits in the finish, and nice nickel plating. The shell interiors are nice also with no delamination and factory bearing edges. Both drums have factory mufflers on the top heads, and the original calf heads top & bottom. All tension rods are original,as are the clips, with no cracks in them(none that I saw anyways).

The snare drum measures 7 x 14",and features the world famous single-ply maple shell with maple reinforcement hoops. This drum also has the aluminum "cloud badge" with red engraving, and the engraved top hoop. For some reason the badge is "upside down",and the original owner tells me it was like that the day he picked them up.I guess you could turn it around, but I will leave that up to the buyer. The inner reinforcement hoops are tight top & bottom, but there are 2 areas(approx. 2" in length) where the snare side reinforcement hoop has delaminated from the bottom of the shell(see pics),but is tight on the upper portion of that same hoop. The drum measures 14" across from all lugs, and Remo heads fit on it,so it is NOT out of round.Either way,it does not affect the sound of the drum, and is very common on these drums. All hoops, tension rods,3-point strainer w/adjustable engraved lever & butt plate are all original, and will clean up nicely. The pearl covering is also nice & will clean up nicely, but there are a couple surface cracks in the covering next to the badge(see pics). These are stable, and not through the covering but I did want to point them out.Overall,a really nice drum with that Radio King tone!

All hardware pictured is included with the set including the bass drum spurs, the two hoop mount cymbal arms, the woodblock/cowbell set w/mount,bass drum muffler, and the clip on tom mounts. Also included are the snare stand(Duplex?),and the Slingerland hi-hat stand with no name cymbals. The original owner could not locate the bass drum pedal, but they appear regularly on Ebay.I will however include the original tuning key which he still had!

Overall,a really great period set when Slingerland "Radio Kings" were the set to have! This set will really clean up nicely, and with some elbow grease & some new heads, you will have a true classic set for years to come.
