I had purchased this laptop as a daily carry around machine, but just got an X200, so I have to sell this one. This laptop works great! I have completely rebuilt this unit from the bottom up, (all I had originally was a working motherboard). On the photo's of the side you notice that the stickers for the screws are missing. These have been ordered and will be included with the laptop. The BIOS has been modded with a custom BIOS to allow SATA III/SSD drives and any wifi NIC that you choose, (no white list). the heat sink has been removed and new thermal paste has been added along with a copper shim to improve cooling. (In case I am unclear, the cooling fan was reinstalled!). I also did a cooling mod to the wifi card. The X61's are famous for hot palm rests due to the wifi card. In picture 12 you can see that I added a foil cover to improve air flow from the fan. I then covered it with cloth tape to minimize the risk of shorts. The Palm rest has gone from uncomfortably hot to barely warm, (sorry, don't have one of those digital laser thermometers to measure the actual temps).

There is a crack in the palm rest bezel near the hinge, but it is only noticable when the palm rest is removed.
