Mark 3 BSA Spitfire engine. 1968. I've known this engine since new. My brother in law bought the original bike direct from the old BSA factory. It was apparently one of 3 marshalls bikes from that years IOM TT. After a couple of years stirling service he somehow managed to drive it into the side of someone's Jaguar. The bike was total write off but the engine was unscathed. It then spent the next few years in a wideline norton frame before it's next and final incarnation as the power source in a Wasp sidecar outfit. Then about 30 years ago it was replaced by a more powerful norton engine. This is when it came into my hands to be the heart of a planned cafe racer project.... Which never happened.
For the last 30 years it's sat in my garage doing nothing!! Time to pass it on.
It's been stripped for inspection and seems generally good. I'd always believed it was on std bores and I can find no markings on pistons to indicate otherwise. Could probably do with de-coke and new rings. I believe every single part there. Only problem I can see is one broken fin on barrels. Few scuff marks on outer casings. I've not tried in any way to tart it up for sale. What you see is what you get. Not too many of these fine engines about now. Any questions please ask.
Collection only.
