Thanks for checking out our cool 1952 MG TD Barn Find

1952 MG TD California survivor car.  Very original and amazing patina.

Solid California blue plate car.  Last registered in California in 1980, and in California indoor storage since.  Only rust is at battery box from acid corrosion.  Some corrosion where body and running board meet........but minor...........no perforation. Incredibly original.  Plywood floors were recently installed.  Paint is faded from wear and checked, just as you'd expect for a car sitting for a very long period of time.  Gas tank appears solid and clear. Engine sounds good.  Brakes and driveline haven't been looked at, and outwardly look fine, but true condition of those systems are unknown.  We wanted to leave this car close to the entombed condition which we found it in. the car will need mechanical attention on its different systems before we would suggest you try to drive it after sitting this long.

Get it to the point where you can drive it with the patina it has.............or perfect candidate for restoration as well (its almost too good for that). amazing condition for a 63 year old motor vehicle. original steel wheels and driveline.  complete with full set of all weather gear, side curtains, convertible top, all with lots of patina........but clear glass, and intact & useable (except for top material has a hole in it).  No key.   New radiator hoses.

Please feel free to examine this car in person, send your representative, mechanic and research in detail prior to the end of the auction.  Happy to assist with your plans for overseas shipping.

Willing to consider interesting trades up or down.  Subject to local sale

On Jul-01-14 at 15:24:02 PDT, seller added the following information:

Hello and thanks for all of your questions, bids and interest!  What a popular car.

We are addressing several questions here for all to see:

1. Unfortunately, No. This is not the car driven by Marilyn Monroe in the movie Monkey Business.  That is a very well documented 1953 TD that would set you back several hundred thousand these days.  Yes, they are very, very similar cars.
2. Is it a numbers matching car? No.  We had no idea but were visited by a gentleman who has been a TD owner since 1974 and is very active in the MG club scene.  He and his TD were even recently featured in the local paper here:

http://www.ocregister.com/articles/car-611142-wells-restored.html

Mr. Wells pointed out the plates and numbers as follows:
Cowl: Body Type 22381
Body 16302/86241
Engine: 17460
Frame: TD16951

When asked about "numbers matching" cars, Mr. Wells chuckled and said that few cars existed that were numbers matching anymore because these cars were driven and driven by sporting type folks not collectors who put them on the shelf. Body, frame, engine and transmission exchanges were common.  Sending it off to the wrecking yard was, thankfully, not common.

So we know that this is not one of those proverbial needles in the haystack worth $100,000.  When queried about this MG TD our local expert proclaimed it a solid car and says although he is an interested buyer, he would be willing to talk to potential buyers about the car too, since he's seen it firsthand.  An absolute gem of a gentleman. Let us know if you are serious and we will provide the number.

3.  Several people familiar with our work have asked about having us restore this car.  We don't normally restore cars we don't own but yes, we would consider restoring this fine automobile to your tastes.  You would need to win the auction and complete your purchase first.

Good luck bidders!!
