Susan Rebecca White is offering a manuscript critique of the first 100 pages of your completed MS or work in progress.

Susan Rebecca White is the author of three critically acclaimed novels, Bound South, A Soft Place to Land, and A Place at the Table. Both A Place at the Table and A Soft Place to Land were national Target book club picks, with over a quarter of a million copies of A Soft Place to Land in print. Susan’s nonfiction has been published in journals and magazines such as the UNC Press (forthcoming), Tin House, Salon, Atlanta magazine, and The Bitter Southerner.

An award winning teacher, Susan is the 2017 Ferrol A. Sams, Jr. Distinguished Chair of English at Mercer University. She has also taught fiction writing at Emory University, Hollins University, and SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design.)

Susan will respond to your work with a carefully written 500 – 750 word editorial letter. She will be looking for the seeds of the story that need to be coaxed into bloom, as well as the weedy sections that are choking out the really good material. Susan will not offer line edits, but rather an overall critique of the work, highlighting its strengths and gently pointing out its weaknesses.

Susan is interested in reading and critiquing memoir, contemporary fiction, literary fiction, and historical fiction. She does not read YA, Sci-Fi, or fantasy fiction.

All Manuscripts must be submitted as a .doc or .docx file, formatted as single-sided, double spaced, Time New Roman 12 point font with standard 1 inch margins.

The winner will be provided with contact information within one week of the auction’s closing and should immediately initiate contact to exchange materials and agree on a timeline.

All proceeds from this auction benefit Reforming Arts, a small non-profit organization that brings higher education in the Arts and Humanities to the women of Lee Arrendale State Prison, the maximum-security facility for women in Georgia. Founded by Executive Director Wende Ballew in 2010, Reforming Arts’ mission is to reduce recidivism through education. The organization began with a small core of volunteer teachers that has more than quadrupled in size. This year, Reforming Arts has partnered with Georgia State University Perimeter College and will offer college credit courses to their incarcerated students beginning in 2018.
