Description

6 exciting games from the 1970's Philadelphia Warriors that include Judy Arnold, Otis Williams, Richard Brown, Lynn Congleton, Buddy Atkinson Jr and more

Philadelphia Warriors vs Canadian Braves 12-1-74, Philadelphia Arena - With Ed Derian on the mic, the Warriors battle Lester Quarles Canadian Braves on the eve of the 1975 season opener. The Warriors skate the great Judy Arnold, Judy Sowinski, Yvonne Riggins, Richard Brown, Jim Trotter, Otis Williams, Cindy Ogbin and Dave Arndt. The story of this game was that Richard Brown had beaten Dave Pound in match races to determine if Lester Quarles and midget Leroy Lambert would be towel boys for the Warriors. Quarles lost the stips but went back on the deal forcing Brown to call the Commisioners office and force the issue. The Braves with a veteran team of Skinny Minny Gwen Miller, Diane Syverson, Lynn Congleton, Yolanda Trevino, Paul Rupert, Skip Schoen, Peter Kelly and Sammy Evans. Nice battles between Arnold and Syverson, probably the 2 best womens skaters in Roller Games at that time. Good jamming from Richard Brown and good infield comedy from Quarles and Lambert. Post game interview with Richard Brown, Quarles and Lambert. 4 periods, very good picture quality

Philadelphia Warriors vs Red Devils 1976 - Ed Derian And Peter Kelly commentate in the studio on this game. Mistakes galore from the duo as one question to Kelly he doesn't quite know what to say before he blurts something out. However, a rare chance to see the Warriors from that year and their lineup post Judy Arnold. The Warriors are led by Otis Williams, Willie Brown, Nitza Ponce, Judy Sowinski, Ruberta Mitchell, Donna Fox, Skip Schoen and Tyrone Jubilee. Peter Kelly explains track dimensions and how they are setup differently according to buildings. The Red Devils, wearing the 1973 IRDL Red Devil uniforms, are led by Richard Brown, Chicken Man Lennie Silverman, John Ortiz, Bernie Congleton, Lynn Congleton, Bessie Gonzalez and Rusty Brown. Good Jamming from Ruberta Mitchell and Nitza Ponce plus Willie Brown stands out for the Warriors. Skip Schoen does most of the jamming for Philly while Congleton asserts herself as a womens captain removed from her years when she was a Warrior. Typical Richard performance with great jamming, acrobatics and savvy from one of the greatest skaters ever. Full game, fair to good picture quality

Warriors vs NY Chiefs 1974, Philadelphia Spectrum - 2nd half action called by Ed Derian and Peter Kelly from their "sound proof" booth in the All Star Skating Game of the Week. Jess Adams is on the infield as Warriors GM but has to contend with John Hall and no real explanation why he was there. The Warriors skated a strong team with coach Buddy Atkinson Jr and Otis Williams, Jerry Cattell, Richard Brown, Ricardo Dredden, Judy Arnold, Ruberta Mitchell, Sonia Sims, Sally Vega, Lynn Congleton and Cindy Ogbin. The Chiefs had remnants of IRDL past with Judy McGuire, Carolyn Moreland, Pokey Truman, Joe Perez, Pam Harrison and Dynamite Mike Gammon but had new coach Porky Parker with Stephanie Williams, Candi Mitchell, Georgy Adams, BJ Peterson, Jeff Hart and Roger McCloud. Judy Arnold did everything, jammed, blocked and led her team. Rare Mike Gammon-Richard Brown matchup. The Chiefs constantly worked on Buddy Atkinson's leg to soften him up but he fought back till the final jam. Candi Mitchell and BJ Peterson with a great 1-2 Chiefs girls punch. Derian and Kelly show SF Bomber-Chiefs highlights from an "earlier" game, fair to good picture quality.

Philadelphia Warriors vs LA T-Birds 1974  - All Star Skating Game of the Week commentated by Ed Derian and Peter Kelly from their "sound proof studio". A strong Philadelphia Warriors team consisting of Judy Arnold, Sally Vega, Ruberta Mitchell, Cindy Ogbin, Lynn Congleton, Bill Hill, Otis Williams, Jerry Cattell, Richard Brown and Jim Trotter. With Cattell and Brown jamming and an Arnold-Vega one two punch, this was a tough team to beat. The T-Birds were led by Joan Weston & Ronnie Rains with Jenny Marshall, Earlene Brown, Lois Decker, Vicky McEwen, Ed Dresser, Bill Croak, Harold Jackson, Greg Quinn and Rich Duffey. Only game in existence with Judy Arnold squaring off against Joan Weston. Typical technical difficulties of these productions. SF Bomber vs NY Chiefs highlights also shown. Jess Adams on infield for Warriors. 4 period equivalent, fair to good picture quality.

LA T-Birds vs Philadelphia Warriors 1974, Los Angeles Sports Arena - If you're a fan of Judy Arnold you'll really enjoy her best skating against Super Sally Vega. 747 Earlene Brown and DC10 Patti Caven form the twin towers for the T-Bird women. Good matchups with Danny Reilly and Johnny Johnson trying to stop the talented Warrior men of Richard Brown, Jim Trotter, Otis Williams and Jerry Cattell. Dick Lane calls the action with Dave Pound commentary. Interview with Vega and Reilly who are then confronted by Ken Monte, Lester Quarles and midget Leroy Lambert. 4 periods, good picture quality.

Philadelphia Warriors vs LA T-Birds 1974, Olympic Auditorium - Legendary announcer Dick Lane calls this 1st half game. Dave Pound and John Hall on the infield for the T-Birds and Jess Adams for the Warriors. Friction between the T-Birds Sally Vega and Judy Sowinski causes Judy to defect to the Warriors in the first period. Besides Vega, T-Birds skate Danny Reilly, John Johnson, Harold Jackson, Bernie Jackson, Eddie Williams, Greg Quinn, Jimmy Terrigno, Margie Lazlo, Patti Caven, Denise Todd, Lois Decker and Earlene Brown. Lane repeatedly promotes upcoming Kiel and Chicago Ampitheatre games. The Warriors are led by the great Judy Arnold with Ruberta Mitchell, Lynn Congleton, Cindy Ogbin, Dee Wilson, Jim Trotter, Richard Brown, Jerry Cattell, John Drew, Bob McDonald and Bob White. Richard ejected in 2nd period for going postal, dropkicking 3 T-Birds and going wild on the track. However that ejection was only for that period as per rules of the day. Would 747 Earlene Brown splash Judy Sowinski or Moo Moo Caven do the same to Judy Arnold? T-Birds fans might get their wish by games end.  Post 2nd & 4rth period interviews conducted by Lane with Sowinski, Adams, Dave Pound and Sally Vega. Poor picture quality but a very entertaining game to watch.
